my 2p - regardless how much the postage is when it arrives, you accepted the sellers t&c's INCLUDING p&p charges, however inflated.
If you didnt want to pay that price, look elsewhere. I do.

As I said, it was an oversight that I didn't realise what the postage charges were prior to bidding. Normally I do check, and on principle would not have bid with that amount of postage considering the weight of the item.

Having queried it, my guess is that the seller may be aware that I could hit their stars and I may not receive the item.;)

Buyer has paid the price and I agree they cannot force seller to refund any . However buyer can leave stars, and its those stars that determine whether a seller remains able to sell on eBay without restriction.

Then you could take your principles to town and buy a silk suit in a shop. Result all round. Don't forget to look at the price tag though. Two "oversights" could lead to disaster.

    Are you the seller? :rotfl:

I sell a lot on Ebay myself and I never recoup the cost of an item through the postage, I start it at a realistic price. You could say that they are they are the ones who are using underhanded tactics.

    Thanks for your input though......
  • While I also agree with realistic prices, don't be so gulible, that when you bought that item with "free" postage, that your seller paid it for you. ;) You see, it works both ways. When it says, free postage, the business seller has added it on the cost of the item and equally, if they had wanted, they could have stuck a couple of quid of the item cost on the postage to bring down their paypal fees. But hey, I've posted that on here before.

Anyone, actually everyone I suspect, adds to the start price if they are offering free postage.

Whether right or wrong, buyers can wipe out a seller in the click of a mouse.

One buyer can't , for tiny sellers two buyers can cause them issues, for larger sellers it takes quite a few before they have issues.

However, I do believe it is worth considering the buyers perception of the deal when you consider how to list. Anecdotally it can sometimes be beneficial to show postage at less than stamp cost rather than free. Buyer sees he has been undercharged and feels sorry for the seller and leaves all 5*.

I also believe there is going to be a big divide at some point and that smaller sellers may start seeing their stars worsen without doing anything differently. With TRS discounts now only being given to those auctions with free postage a lot of medium and large sellers will probably go that way. Therefore the smaller sellers (and that includes me) will look expensive on postage and will start to be marked say at an average of 4*. 4* isn't bad unless it becomes the norm at which point we get restricted as we need to maintain 4.4 or above.

If the postage price was clearly stated, and it was in this case, then even if the seller wanted to charge £1million for postage* they could not be described as 'underhand' - you always have the option to buy elsewhere.

We've all made mistakes on eBay and I agree it is frustrating but it's not fair to mark a seller down when you agreed to the charge.

*An exaggerated and hypothetical sum - obviously eBay would not allow this yadda yadda yadda

My comment related to Ebay fee avoidance by starting the item low and stacking the postage cost.
