Why? The seller replied didn't he?

    Re This Thread...

All this marking sellers down on stars when it's the buyers fault or you don't happen to like the response (despite the seller responding promptly) is so petty.

If all of the sellers disappear off eBay having been marked down on their stars there won't be any bargains at all so why niggle over such small things? As long as the item arrives and is as described everything else is 'buyer beware'.

Unfortunately only a naive seller believes that is still true. Most of us accept that our post and packing charges have to both look right and appeal to the buyers, otherwise we risk our accounts.

With so many sellers now offering 'free' postage I don't think eBay are likely to Lose all the sellers anytime soon.

I was thinking 2nd class recorded (up to 750g) which would be very light for a suit.

OP, until you get the suit and weigh it you can't tell how much, if at all, you have been overcharged. If it does turn up at half the costs you paid then mark the p and p stars down a bit, there is nothing else you can do once you have agreed to pay it.

Yes, it is 2nd class recorded and the suit is silk, so very lightweight. It may possibly be slightly more but certainly not £7. I did find the response a bit terse too.

I bought a suit off Ebay and never actually looked at the postage cost (stupid!) when I came to pay the cost was £7.

I messaged the seller asking if it was a mistake as it will cost no more than £3.15 to post. Got a reply saying "that is my price, you got a bargain". I have paid the invoice. Would you be miffed about the overcharge and leave a low star or just chalk it up to experience?

I am not sure which way to go with this as my stars suffered when I was just charging the basic costs so I have had to do free P&P to get them back up. Why should other sellers get away with it? The item was a bargain but.......

    Opinions?

I know you should have spotted the price before you bought and seeing it after is no reason for remorse, but you won't know the price until it comes and you can weigh and measure. Royal Mail don't deal just in weight when they charge.

And yes, £3.15 doesn't sound quite right assuming it is with RM?

    £3.15? Do you mean £3.50 (750-1000g 2nd class?)

Yes the seller replied in a rude and abrupt manner.

It is becoming increasingly hard to maintain an eBay account, and sellers who overcharge on postage and are rude to their buyers won't last long.

Just received an item today that was marked as first class recorded for delivery, seller has sent it first class. Queried it with the seller who said "most sellers to it to avoid fees". I don't!

Waiting to see if the refund I have been promised materialises before leaving feedback.

It's one thing to inflate the postage charge - it's another to advertise one method and send by a cheaper method to save on fees.

OP I would wait to see when it arrives as I would expect a silk suit to be carefully and well packed, not just chucked in a recycled sack so there may be packaging charges to account for.

As a buyer I would think it very unfair to mark a seller down because I did not check his postage, yes I would be annoyed at myself but it's a bit much to punish the seller for your error.

While I don't agree with his attitude I hope you got a bargain.

When it arrives, see the charge on the sticker on the front. If not well packed and the postage is more than £2 less than the amount stated then I would first contact to see if a partial postage refund could be obtained, to at least show a method of contact after posting, and if not, hammer their stars!

I will swallow what I feel is a significant overcharge on postage if the item is beautifully wrapped, but if it arrives in a bin bag, I would knock off at least one star, possibly two.

my 2p - regardless how much the postage is when it arrives, you accepted the sellers t&c's INCLUDING p&p charges, however inflated.
If you didnt want to pay that price, look elsewhere. I do.
