Good deal for o2 broadband sellout to sky?

Options
I've been on o2 broadband for years and they've been great. They are selling the bb to sky later this year so I will become a sky customer automatically. Just asked sky if there will be any incentive for the incoming o2 customers and they said 'no'. No surprise really. So, the plan is to jump now to sky. £50 cashback if you go through Topcashback, new router(old one stays if you wait), 6 months free bb, similar advertised speeds and its £2 cheaper per month. Any reason to wait? Any reason not to take sky? Is this the no brainer it looks like?

Read some of the other threads on the subject. O2 customers have been calling to cancel and being offered 12 months free broadband and £200 mobile credit.
  • Hi Gordon. Yes, I saw that. I'm not on o2 for mobile now but kept the broadband as they were really good, so the £200 credit is no use unfortunately. Considering I'm saving on my line rental and the cashback too, I will gain more than the 12 months free line rental. Quite like the idea of a router upgrade too. Mine is yonks old.

When I phoned up and asked for my MAC code they told me they were selling up due to them having no offering for the new FTTC services.
I was offered 12 months free Broadband, which was very tempting but being a geek I want more!
  • Me too. I just need to choose if I want fibre for the same money I was paying for line rental and bb or take the equivalent service and make a saving.

For me, with the house we have about 4 phones connected, the same computers, TV,Sky NAS Drive. 2 kids who are addicted to youtube!
I've counted a number of times over 100gb worth of bandwidth in a month so Fibre for us is a no brainer. I'll take out a trial with Lovefilm or something and look at reducing the Sky package.
Also have a NAS drive will be brilliant on Fibre as then I can remotely access the files and stream to my phone/computer ect when away.

no they are selling up due to funding their 4G licenses and was announced awhile ago as to why they where selling their landline broadband business to sky.

They wouldn't need to invest in physical infrastructure to offer FFTC, it would just be bought from BT Wholesale.
They're just refocusing on their original core market. Not surprising really, as, since they've given so many discounts and promotions away since they entered the broadband market, it can hardly have been profitable. Makes me think now that their whole intention from the start was simply to build a customer base and then to sell it on,
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

We use o2 at home too for several years and its been a great service. On the two occations I've had to contact their customer service this too has been very good, much much better than their phone business customer serivce which was so bad I left them.

I'm sorry they've sold it on. A couple of people I know who have/had sky had quite poor experiences and the reviews I looked at online are quite poor. I think I'll be having to move elsewhere.
  • i called customer services the other day and was offered 12 months free broadband, although not on o2 mobile the advisor said if i took out a new contract with o2 for a mobile then called up o2 broadband after i had set up my new mobile i woud get the £200 credit.
seems a good deal, anyone else done this ?
