Just to add that I also received my mortgage offer from Virgin Money. Applied on 19/03/13 evening at broker and supplied there and then all the documentation needed. Survey carried out on 26/03/13. VM then requested references for us both and we managed to get these returned on the same working day. Mortgage offer issued on 09/04/13, some 13 working days with Easter taken into account.
    Regards, Robin.

  • Looking to join the (for lack of a better word) party!

FTB been looking for eight months for the perfect place. Offer now in on aforementioned perfect place, mortgage application in last Friday, cost of survey disappeared from my account yesterday! Eeep, so horribly nervous. Does the cost of the survey generally get taken that quickly? I can't imagine they have done anything with the application yet.
  • Virgin go to valuation ahead of underwriting (unless you hold them back) so means little other than they have received the application and basic docs.

Our application is with Virgin (they have had it since 28th August, valuation done on 2nd September, they then requested an environmental search which we had done and sent to them on 18th September. On 30th September when I phoned for an update they had sent a letter to our solicitors requesting some further info with regards to environmental search and something about insurance. So still no formal offer yet and all our searches are now done and we have received contract from the solicitors to sign!
  • Oh dear that doesn't sound great bexs2247, I was kinda hoping the process had sped up what with the recent drop in the number of mortgage applications. Is a request for an environmental survey pretty standard? Or is your house built on some sort of rare newt colony :)

(I jest but I have genuinely no idea, what with being a FTB and all)

It's "on or near contaminated land". However all the houses/bungalows have been there since the 60's!! My other halfs parents live up the road from where are buying and have done for over 30 years!!!

I'm hoping it's not going to be a problem! Just stressful waiting to hear
  • Gah! Sounds like such a stress. Good luck bex, I hope it works out soon
  • I'm here too, in what is a right old house saga.

AIP was way back in July, survey carried out on the 27/07 and then spend the best part of two months providing additional documents, structural/builders reports, payslips statements and all that jazz to Virgin, final (I'm hoping) piece of the jigsaw was sent to them on Monday with the case currently with the underwriters......

Any idea on how long that's likely to take on past experience?

I'm hoping once offer is received it's a case of arranging dates, but the way things have gone who knows! :(

Thanks. I have fingers and toes crossed! Phoned my solicitor several times this afternoon and kept getting voicemail each time, left msg and sent an email as I wanted to see if they had received this letter yet. No email or call back. Very frustrating!

Wow that sounds a long time. Was that all because the survey picked up on something? It was our standard valuation that said ours was " on or near contaminated land"
