Since our son moved out we are going out for a family meal once a month which is good fun. Even though we see him most days anyway

Pollycat, we had the set lunch at Le Gavroche which costs £52 pp and includes a bottle of wine, limitless coffee, and four courses + petits fours. It was delicious and the cheeseboard was the largest I've ever seen! It's not just the food, but the whole experience, as Michel Roux came out of the kitchen and spoke to everyone, saying Happy Birthday to my son, who was given a dessert with a candle as extra. It was rather nice for a special occasion, although I did tell my son he wouldn't get much else for his birthday! Interestingly, although each course is not large, you still emerge feeling stuffed! I must emphasise, my usual meals out are to the local Indian!

Thanks for that - it sounds pretty good value, actually.

And what a really nice guy Michel Roux aways seems when he's on TV.

We didn't eat out last night but we paid £40 for 4 pizza's from Dominoes and this was collection so they were cheaper. Actual price listed as £17.99 each with an extra £1.50/2.50 each for the various stuffed crusts.

However a week or so ago I paid £6 odd for two 14 inch made to order pizzas from Sainsbury's which were delicious. Who's the fool I ask myself!
It was a last minute decision and the chicken I had got out to cook was put in the fridge for today.
    £2.00 Savers Club = £34.00 So Far

+ however may £2 coins I have saved in my Terramundi since 2000.

Once a week with a friend. Nothing fancy as she only gets an hour for lunch and we have short drive there and back in that time. If we didn't meet for lunch we would rarely get a chance to meet. Other than that it is very rare. I'd rather a good home cooked meal.

We go out to restaurants or pubs less than half a dozen times a year, due to our finances (we do go out on holiday once a year, but even then it is only a couple of times).
One reason is that we are skint, and the other is that we can both cook well, and that in the past we have been hacked off with the quality of food we get out.
I would rather buy two fillet steaks for a tenner and cook them properly, than go out to a restaurant and pay £50 plus for someone else to do it.

Probably every couple of weeks as there's a great training restaurant near us and the food is fantastic and quite low-priced. We also use Tesco vouchers on occasion, in but tbh I can cook more imaginative dishes than most restaurants have on offer.

Plus we don't need to drive, if we stay at home meaning OH can have a drink.

Very interested in the Michel Roux restaurant, OP, thanks for sharing. OH has a big birthday this year and it sounds like something [STRIKE]I [/STRIKE] he would like to do. ;)
  • Never eat out or have take aways  Simply cant afford it. However I have eaten at la gavroche, many years ago when i won a competition. went with mum and we also got overnight accommodation at the hotel next door (111-I think) It was an unforgettable experience.
