We're sort of the same, but opposite:D
We might have a takeaway about once a month but hardly ever eat out as we'd rather save the money for holidays
Of course on holiday we eat out most nights :)

Yes same here! Or occasionally go self catering and do a bit of both! Even if its just a big tub of ice cream for dessert if were somewhere hot! :)

There are tons of restaurants and nice pubs near me so when we do go out here it's always nice.

Its lower the tone, not lower the town.

"It's" should have an apostrophe and your comma should have a space after it.

Maybe once a month? But we've had some really bad luck in the past six months or so, with 'restaurants' (I use that term loosely) serving us food for £10-15 a dish that I could've knocked up a lot better, or some incredibly bad service.

I think me and OH must have a 'look' about us as sometimes it feels waiting staff do their utmost to ignore us on purpose. A couple of months ago we went to Cafe Rouge, got some menus thrown at us, and then she pawed over the 3 other people in the whole restaurant for 30 mins, tried to flag her down, she made eye contact and then deliberately went in the kitchen when we did?! Needless to say we left... it totally ruins the evening and I find it really stressful.

I am a bit of a so-and-so though. It still makes my blood boil when a restaurant will charge you £15-18 for three slices of pork belly when I can get a big chunk for about £3!!!

My OH and I generally eat out once a week but to fairly cheap places, under a tenner for a main meal.
Roughly once a month we try to go somewhere new (and that probably mean more expensive) but many of my friends who earn more that I do rarely go out for meals with their OHs. And if they do its usually to a Harvester as they think its cheap. But its only a pound or so cheaper that some of my faves like Prezzo or ASK, and the food is so much better!
If it was me, I rather go out less frequently but to nicer restaurants!
Some of the meals I've had whilst eating out I could have cooked better myself.
I think how often you eat out depends on your income, your family, and your interests.

I've decided to lower the town purely by focusing on the following few quotes from the original post.

Maybe if you haven't got anything more interesting or relevant to add, pop over to the Arms or DT boards.

Lots of smart-a**es on there you can have fun with.

Don't derail a good thread by 'focusing' on something that has no relevance to this thread.
  • I hate it when Restaurants/pubs really try it on price wise. I went into a nice pub near Linton Falls in the Yorkshire dales. All they had on the menu for vegetarians was Welsh Rarebit-(cheese on toast), 2 slices for £7.95!!
I just started laughing and said I'm not paying that and bought a bag of crisps instead.

I remember once seeing a small cafe in York that wanted £8.95 for a jacket potato and beans!!!! Jog on!

When hubby is home we eat out loads, usually at lunchtime / late lunchtime while the kids are at school can be 4 or 5 times a week. When he's away working, I take the kids out to eat somewhere once a week or so. 2 or 3 times a year we have a proper splurge meal out to somewhere like the Ledbury and have the tasting menu.

What can I say, we like food :)

It's hard to beat the harvester triple chicken with their BBQ sauce for £8.99.

We don't eat out very often. We had a meal out in November for DS and DD's birthdays, then over xmas for DH's 40th. We will be out over easter for our other DD birthday.

DH and I never go out as a couple for a meal, if we go out we take the kids 17, nearly 13, and 9 because we don't go out very often.

We get a takeaway maybe twice a month, for the 5 of us, they don't like to miss out.

If we eat out, its Franky & Bennys, we go for a curry, Pizza Hut etc, no where expensive.
