Two questions on debit cards

I would think that it was just a case of a faulty pump to be honest, If you qualify for a Halifax account you qualify for the offline card, theres no in between with their full accounts.
Its the same with Lloyds. Unless you have the basic account their cards are all offline too.
I do hope that is correct as I have just opened a Halifax Current Account and I use Pay@Pump all the time so it would be terrible if the card was one of the 'online' types I have read about. I'm with Lloyds now and the card is definitely 'offline' and can be used anywhere so it would be a terrible backward step for me if the Halifax card isn't.0 -

Used my Halifax card at another pump and it worked fine, the RBS one on the other hand, has been taken out of my wallet, it had a 7 month (roughly) date on it (start date to expiry) so is obviously there equivalent of an electron. Needless to say they can shove it where the sun don't sign.
Not sure if you are aware, but Lloyds and HBOS are now both lloydsbankinggroup.0 -

Thanks for the reply, i'm glad the card worked for you at the pump!. Following receipt of the debit card (it wasn't contactless) I took the advice of another poster and gave them a quick call to ask why the card wasn't contactless and the Adviser said they don't send them out automatically to new account customers but added she would order one for me, which is what she did.
I did know HBOS is owned by Lloyds, i'm only moving to Halifax as they have a Larger Branch than Lloyds (my 'local' branch is tiny!) and it's nearer to where I live. I'm going to keep my Lloyds Accounts (Current and Savings) and Duo Credit Cards for now.0 -

Thats interesting because last May went I when on holiday. During the flight a woman attempted to make a purchase with her Green Olympic debit card and the trolly dolly said they was not able to accept the card for payment. However when I used mine it went through perfectly fine. Did basic account customers get a green Olympic debit cards?Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

I suppose there could have been a number of reasons why the card didn't work but as far as i'm aware the green Olympic card was only issued to Classic and Silver Account customers.0 -
They sometimes issue online only cards on the classic and silver account anyone. The youth account also comes with that card.0

Im sure there is an old thread lurking about on MSE Regarding Lloyds online and offline debit cards on classic accounts.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

One of my family members has the same LTSB Classic Account as me (green Olympic card) but her card will not work in some train ticket machines, she dosen't drive so I don't know about Petrol Pumps.0 -
eg RBS cards with digits 5 and 6 [28] are Full Auth, but the cards are also green/blue instead of navy.
You cannot tell from a HSBC debit card if you've got a full auth or a offline one as the Numbers are the same and the cards look the same.
Funny you should say this, like I say, my old man has the navy card, mine (in comparison to his is more greeny blue). digits 5 and 6 on mine are 30 which would imply (by what you have said above) that it will work in pay@pump.
I have just spoken to RBS who did confirm that it 'should' work everywhere - but he did stipulate as long as there are funds. It is the short valid to and from date that worries me (8 months - I always remember old Visa Electron cards carrying short valid dates).0 -

If you have a Debit card that displays the Visa Debit logo and
starts with the numbers 4751 16, 4762 30, 4762 31 or 4762 34, you will only be able to use your card at a retailer or supplier of services where they can authorise the transaction at the time of the transaction being made. If this is not possible the
transaction will be declined.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0
