Parking charge notice parking eye Aldi

I recd one of the above notices today sent out 13 march for parking for 2 hrs and 7 minutes. I left my car there whilst i went to the hospital across the way thinking I would be 40 mins or so there hn do my shopping. however i was told i need to go into hospital next week so ended up having to see nurse get mrsa tests etc . i then wandered round aldi and did purchase £22 of shopping. The car park wasnt even full. I thought as long as you were a customer and made a purchase I would be ok. I've read mixed messages re ignoring them and it may go away and others saying pay it or you will end up going to court or having it taken from your pay. Thing is I shop there every week and have done so for over 8 years! Also as I've just received it the option of paying early is up tomorrow. Not sure where I stand.

You stand by the bar, having a drink and congratulating yourself for not paying the scammers.

The reasons why will be along soon.

You can see what you can expect to receive on the Parking Eye letter chain.

They'll tell lies about sending bailiffs, issuing CCJs, affecting your credit record, etc. when none of that is true.

They make money by intimidating and scaring innocent members of the public into thinking they have no choice but to pay up.

Gawd knows where you think you read that?!

Obviously the first thing to say is don't pay it. Not at all, even when you get scary letters.

Second thing is to make a major complaint to the retailer even though you 'only' spent £22 there you were still a customer and quite possibly are allowed to use that car park for local shops too (in an Aldi in Sussex they were fined for trying to stop people doing that!).

Here's my usual reply to newbies about fake PCNs, post #14 here:

There are NO mixed messages. You either ignore or (if in England/Wales) there is the appeal option and then POPLA which you can read about on the forum.

  • I live in England - does this mean I should just totally ignore them as some of the letters further down the chain look serious especially from the debt collectors! Or would I be best appealing and mentioning POPLA etc??

They do look serious and very threatening. Don't even open them and you won't get stressed about it. If you do accidentally open one just tear it up and put in bin.

I would say to appeal, as discussed at length about Parking Eye, here:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?showtopic=77301

PE sometimes cancel if you show receipts but if not then you can take it to POPLA with help from here and/or pepipoo forums as to the strongest wording likely to win at POPLA.

Ignoring the whole thing is also an option but you'd need to ignore the scary letters and you'd always be wondering if you would be one of the very rare ignorers which PE may try to get a small claim over - that's very unlikely but you'd need to defend it. And it would then be too late for POPLA of course so I think we should all use it, especially as it costs PE money.

So I say appeal and use POPLA (and you'll see all the discussion on that linked thread talks about the options and likely outcomes from PE).

I've read the info one pepipoo but found it difficult because the replies are not easily listed as on these forms so you have to click on each individual response. Also in an appeal it looks like you have to be careful with the wording or you could cause yourself more problems.
