Just had a leaflet sent home by school about a tutoring service called Tute. Anyone heard of them/used them? Checked website - looks legit and surely OK if recommended by school??
Costs £5 with the first lesson for free. brochure says they are used in schools across England and Wales and the same teachers/lessons now available at home. Seems too good to be true?! Any comments/help appreciated as need to sort my sons GCSE maths asap...mock results were worrying!

That is incredibly cheap. I charge £15 per hour fo GCSE and more for A level students and other people are telling me that's not enough... And if you actually look at the websitem, for one to one tuition, it starts at £15 and if you click further in, most of the tutors are more expensive than that. I think they may have been economical with information provided.
With less than 3 months to exams, it's going to be tight to support your son. I've been tutoring people for march exams since last August./0 -
So its online tutoring acording to this press release? http://yorkshirejobs.org/article/Online-Tutoring-Service-Only-5-Per-Pupil-Per-Session0

Thaanks, but I can't afford £15 or more, not if needed for over 6 months. Does it really take tthat long!?
I just had a look and they do have a 'group thing' for £5? There's a video at the bottom too which shows this happening in a school - the teacher seems to like it??
Think I might register and see what they come back with - if I do get a free lesson I've nothing to lose!0 -

I'd second this - it's going to be a bad time of year to find a good tutor with space to take tutees - and the £5 figure is either an economy with the truth, or you're wondering what kind of tutors they're using (I charge £20 an hour when I tutor and most years I could fill every evening in the week if I wanted to from enquiries I take).
If it's a genuinely free session with no catches then you've probably got nothing to lose looking into it - but I'd be very very suspicious. Might be worth asking on the TES private tutors forum to see if anyone there's heard anything good or bad about the company - it's not one I know of.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Ok take your point, but I registered early evening and have had a credit applied to my account - so no argument so far!
Lesson booking was easy, maths Thursday afternoon....fingers crossed0 -
I am paying £20 for a weekly one hour session for my yr 8 child and saw the difference in 2-3 sessions though son has the ability but lacks enthusiasm for the subject and not showing his workings out (cos they were in his head where the teacher can't mark!) which was contributing to the problem. I agree about not much spaces at min though. Son't tutor was quite happy when I said I wouldn't be continuing much beyone Easter as he has so many he's trying to fit in.
I recommended tutor to someone whose child got a C in mock GCSEs and is predicted to get a C but needs a B for what she wishes to study and she started with him a few weeks back and was told it was achievable to get.0 -
My son has just had his lesson - fantastic! The teacher was 15 years qualified, had been teaching in schools today and was excelent. I asked him about Tute and he said they have a few hundred tutors and deliver lessons in primary and secondary schools nationally. He thinks they are doing really well and are just expanding into the home market now.
My son really enjoyed the lesson and formed a relationship with teh teacher quickly - said it was 'cool' and wants more over the easter hols.. At £5 I'm happy
Would recommedn this to anyone0 -
Sorry if I sound just a little cynical here...but has the OP started the thread to genuinely ask for feedback on peoples perception or expeirience with this company....or to promote it on a well used website....I wonder....
In a very short space of time she has signed her son up for it,hes had a lesson, feels the teacher is fantastic and they are bonding well....and the OP now recommends the site to others.
.....and I haven't even mentioned that its a new user with 4 posts to date to their name.....
For those that are genuinely interested in an opinion,I dont think you can beat a one to one tuition and would expect to pay more than £5 for the experience...I'd put more credibility to the website and recommendation if the OP were to return in a few months after her son has sat his exams and passed rather than just sat through one online lesson.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Sorry but you;re out of line - a mate warned me about tihs forum and she was right. What's an OP?! Why do i care anyhow?
I'd respect your opinion if you had tried it out, it's free for gods sake. You wouldn't have to wonder then.
Couldn't understand why Igot a treat Newbies nicely message when i registered: now I know why...life is too short0 -
