And if its not rude, whats the "Evil Landlady Deposit Saga"?? also how do u manage to make so much on pigsback, I only manage about 40p a week! I bought my breadmaker on Ebay and didnt go through pigsback   , are there any other ways to make money on there without actually spending any (dont have any!)
Click on my sig to read more about Evil Landlady - you may want to eat first, go to the loo first and tell your family and friends you will be busy for a while though
In terms of Pigsback, I earn a fair bit from clicking, answering quizzes and more. There is a great thread in the Freebies thread all about Pigsback. The first 3 posts tell you all you need to do and are updated constantly with latest info. Then I make £2ish a day via other cashback sites, see sig.... Mr EL also has a Pigsback account, which I manage for him, we prob earn £10 in vouchers every 6 or 7 weeks each. Right now saving them all for Xmas 07. I also buy my monthly Tesco shop through Pigsback, earns around 170 points each time. That's when I get all the tinned and heavy bulky stuff.
Anyway, back to topic...
Great recipe ideas folks. My tip is to buy most of the ingredients cheap and then invest in a few 'luxury' tidbits than can make the whole thing seem luxury... think sundried tomatoes that last ages... olives, roasted red peppers, some pine nuts, things like that. Olives I get a massive jar from the £1 store. Sundried tomatoes the same, or from LIDL. Roasted peppers I love the jar ones from LIDL. pine nuts and other bits like spices I try to get from local Turkish shops as Scwartz are such a rippppppp off. I also buy spices from E-bay, an absolute bargain - there's one place that sells them on E-bay and they are in Devon and grow it all themselves and dry the spices on their Aga oven. I like their spices alot. My fave spices are: oregano, paprika, chilli, bay leaves and curry. I could not do without 'em! For fresh spices i love basil.
Hmmmm - haven't had a jacket potato in months - ine for next week I think! I always choose rubbish cheddar though... any recommendations to nice cheddar from Sainsburys? It's my closest shop.
TIP: Have left over wine? It's rare in our flat, but when it does happen I pour the remainder into the ice-cube tray. Then next time I make spag bol or chilli, I pop 2 cubes of wine into it... yummy, and no temptation to drink more! :T

Everything is fine until he comes shopping with me... I must ban him!
For me, everything is fine till he's left alone at home..and he leaves for work 4 hours after I do....
example
one roasted chicken, two portions used for Sunday lunch.
I come in from work Monday.
What chicken? Oh, THAT chicken? I had that as a snack before I left for work...
This week, one roast of pork for Sunday lunch.
Came in tonight...I kid you not, he'd sat down with the leftover joint and sliced it up, one slice of meat between two other slices of meat....his definition of a 'good snack' when the wife isn't around!
Carnivore is not the word. He frequently accuses me of trying to poison him when I slip a bit of veg onto his plate....

It's like we are seeing the same man - or they are all the same?
My favourite: I put a plate of food down and he whinges I feed him too much - that he will get fat... so he tries to put back some vegetables and later goes back for second helpings of the meat
So, what sort of poisons do you use?0 -
I'm starting to think up my shopping list for friday (pay day)...
Hoping I'll be fairly lucky as the market is on in town that day so hopefully my veg will be a little cheaper.
I've got a frozen chicken in the freezer so that'll do nicely roasted on friday... and should then last me for saturday and sunday. I must learn to get all the bits off meat off so I dont waste any. This will be my second attempt with a roasted chicken and I'm determined to make it "rubber"!
Then I think I might go simplistic for the meals inbetween.
Omelette....
Scrambled egg on toast...Always try to have a night of "something on toast"
Chicken curry (rubber)
Pasta bake- That should make minimum of 2 good portions
Will figure out costings of that on tesco website I think. I might even do it online and go thru pigsback as I too have been wondering how you make any money off it!
Does their website have all their products though? Inc value?Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I feed us really cheaply by bulk buying reduced items. I fed myself and DH for less than £9 one week! That was for breakfast, lunch and dinner and included about 5 portions of fruit and veg each day.
It really is worth planning your shopping around yellow stickering time0 -
Hello,
Thought I'd join the thread if thats okay.... I'm feeding two and trying to keep the budget down to less than £40 a week.
I think someone mentioned earlier on about soups- this is my failsafe standby, I have a vat of it sitting on the hob most of the timeand it is really cheap if using up odds and ends of veg. I adore roast parsnip soup with cream swirled in but that tends to be a slightly more expensive one for when I need a treat!
Made a meal last night that would work out to be pretty cheap- a sausage casserole/stew type thing.
Sausages (cost obv depends on what 'grade' you like) £1.89 for pack of 8, used six so £1.42
Tin mixed beans 49p
tin cannellini beans 31p
Onion 15p
Tin chopped tomatoes 47p
Few herbs/chili flakes/a dash of worcester sauce
chopped up/medium size cubes of potatoes 30p
Made a lovely stew type dinner with a bread roll and works out to £3.14 but there were easily leftovers (my lunch the next day!) so three portions.
EL- just had to stop reading your evil LL thread- have been reading it for two hours and havn't got that many pages back!!! Good luck for the court date
cupid_s- how do you know when is yellow sticker time in your supermarket? I never seem to find anything in my local Mr T!!Very excited to be marrying my partner in crime for the last 7 years in September 2012 :jNo longer a midlandsfairy... back living in the sunny south!0 -
Excellent ideas!
Tonight we are having our chorizo, read bean and tomato stew (from freezer) with cous cous.
Last night we had oven baked trout fillets and potatoes, with roasted red pepper, butter, lemon and toasted almonds - around £2.50 all in, so £1.25 each, as a treat.MFW #185

Does anyone else find they spend more as the weather gets warmer? I find it easy to make cheap winter food but harder to make light summery food for less... be glad when my homegrown salads grow!
Having said that I nipped into Sainsburys last night and they had some good deals on organic fruit & veg, this is what I had for tea last night as a bit of a treat -
Organic spinach, watercress and rocket salad, 89p a bag, had about a third of it so - 30p
Green pepper, 78p (ouch), about a quarter - 20p
Pack of fresh crayfish, prawns and mussels, £1.99, a third of this so - 66p
Pack of organic new potatoes 85p, about sixth of a packet - 14p
With sprinkle of olive oil and lemon juice and a few slices of mild green chilli.
Works out about £1.30 a portion but it was almost as nice as my favourite M&S crayfish salad which is £4.99!
Anyway, any ideas for cheap summery meals welcome here.. am going to try local market at the weekend and see if I can find some cheap veg.Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better."0 -
