Toad in the hole is a good cheapie one.
I'm hopeless at all the costing thing but for two people its
1 egg, 1/4 pint milk, 50g flour and then some sausages (depends on what "grade" sausages you prefer).
Will be watching this thread with interest - as during the week it's me and OH and weekends its step kids too. Usually spend approx £40 on food with extra spent for cleaning/washing stuff too. Anything that cuts it down without going hungry is a bonusworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
A really good way to reduce your food bill is to cut out meat and to eat seasonally. This can also mean buying grocery ingredients when they're on special offer. This often results in my tweaking my menu plan (for instance I was apssing my favourite fish stall as they were closing, and got lots of their *leftovers* very cheap - fish pie for tea
).
Take a look at Gingham's Spring menu planner - it's vegetarian and is based around the seasonal fruit and veg that she gets in her veg box.
The cabbage gallette is delicious, and very cheap.

Hmmm, Gingham's thread has been on my faves for ages - hence me starting this post!
Last night we spent just under £6 on ingredients for spag bol and it has made 8 portions:
Batch cost: £5.64 - makes 8 portions (ie 4 dinners for both of us)
Spaghetti £0.07
Bolognaise (batch cooked) £0.71
TOTAL MEAL COST FOR 2 = £1.56MFW #185

Have you met my OH - if I fed him a plate of veg he'd be quite upset - although I do get away with lentil and veggie curry for lunches, and stretch all my mince out with red lentils now (the kids didn't even notice they were in the shepherds pie and I'd added grated carrots into it aswell)working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

At last, found the thread I was looking for - this is what I managed to cook for £15.
I calculate there's enough there for lunch and supper for 4 people, so a bargain plan, IMO!
Gnocci looks good.
