They do not charge - well not round here anyway and the service you get will depend upon the S.A and how busy the store is.
Some will get you to book, others if not busy will do it there and then.
If you get one of these done I would advise not buying anything till you go out of the shop and spend a whle wearing the make up. I have found in the past that due to the lights in the shops the colours etc always look totally different as soon as I walk out of the shop.

Thanks for the helpful advise Pingua - I will definetly go away from the shop before I agree to buy anything - cause I have made that mistake loads of times with lipsticks etc. they never look the same in natural light as they do under those bright lights in the shops.

    Thanks again for the advise

  • aarrggghhh...i went into boots with a friend today. saw lots of roc gift bag but the skincare SA wouldnt let me have any without buying some rip off cream. she said it will scan for 20 pounds (???) if i get it without buying some skincare cream. i knew it was not true but decided not to argue. but the next thing i know, she took the blooming set to the till, and told her colleagues (very loudly, at that) not to let any of the bags go thru without the cream. proceeded to point at me, and EVERY head at the counter turned (SA and customers alike). if there is a moment where i wish i dont exist, this will be it.

friend and i walked off, but we both have cheeks so red that others might think we tried on too much blushers from the samples. thank goodness i have her with me. anyway, we had a look around and i grabbed some nail files. (6 to be exact, as i was trying to get my points up, and use it to buy some nice toiletries for my dad). checked acm, and there the only offers was still competitions. met friend at till to pay stuff,..and it was then that i noticed she had an AC, which look quite old. snatched her card, popped it into the machine, and i nearly fainted.

remaining points: some 2 odd pounds. offers: EVERY TYPE OF OFFER YOU CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE. 500 points no7, 100pts shave, 500 memory, etc etc.
and the best part is that................wait for this..........she Disnt know that the her card has got thie offers,.....and.......she dont know that she can print and use them. (faint).

spent the next 30 minutes in a starbucks giving crash course tutorial on bootsing.

most of them do it i think - and it's always free after all they want you to buy their products! you'll probably have to make an appointment - unless it's really quiet. take it as an opportunity to get on the good side of the No7 SA's - as when there are offers on they are more liekly to be nice to you! The No7 staff at my Boots think I'm nuts (they're right mind you!):rotfl:

Thanks completeboxset for taking the time to reply to my post. I have got quite friendly with the staff at a nearby Boots - so I am gonna pop in on Monday and get talking to her and see what she says.
With regards to being nuts, its a pre-requisite of being a moneysaver isnt it - you gotta be nuts - to be able to get away with these "glitches" in the system, that way if a suspicious SA stops you, we all just act daft. So I too am nuts :T and proud of it.

thanks again for the helpful info it really is much appreciated.

  • oh,..just to add..she has had her card for about 2 years or so. never really bought anything from boots except a bottle of perfume and some bits and pieces.

so i can conclude that the offers are not given on the basis of your spending habits, but rather, on the basis of how long you've had the card.

I have had my card for years and i get comps all the time not much freebies and always high total spends.
Got one for hubby and am training him to do phone top ups etc and get some points on his card.

    Evening Bootsers!

I've been dying to get on all day to tell you about my second real-life Bootsing trip today. It was mighty exciting :D

First stop was the ACM, my online points were ready so that was 667 points just for that. Some nice vouchers for me, 300 points on £35 spend, 500 on No 7, 100 on photo frame, 500 on memory card, 100 on Hydro mens, £1 of 3 mens toiletries.

Next stop, No 7 counter. Picked up some of that Blemish Care serum for myself that someone recommended the other day, and one P+P, signs all over the place saying one per customer and the No 7 lady was only allowing people one each (I was eavesdropping) so I pretended to be browsing and then when she was distracted I nabbed another and hid it under my Boots mag in the basket ;) They had a pile of the GWP bags so I picked up one of those too.

Then it was off to the Jemma Kidd section, picked up 4 nail files.

Next up, photo section. No reduced memory cards in sight and no £1 frames, but I did find some gorgeous leather-look brown photo frames reduced from £10 to £4 and on BOGOF, so with my voucher got £20 worth of frames for £3.

Now for Mens section, picked up a Hydro shave foam for the OH (19p after voucher) and 2 deodorants to get the 3 for 2 and £1 off voucher.

No ROC GWP's in sight, and I couldn't find a Clearance section at all, there was just one shelf of reduced fake tan stuff (anyone know if there is one in the main Sheffield store?).

Paid at the till upstairs, nice young girl who took all my vouchers no problems. Paid £54 and got 2276 points. Will be selling my two P+P's so that will be most of my spend back.

Only thing is, if my receipt is right I have been charged £6.50 for the No 7 GWP, I didn't realise til I got home. Not sure what to do about that.

oh. on what basis then? bootsing is mind boggling.:confused:

anyway, assuming that the vouchers are given on the basis of the length of time you've had the card, i have managed to get each member of my family to sign up for a card. :D

    this includes:

1)my dad. who will never use the card, as he still thinks toiletries magically restock themselves into the relevant cabinets.:rotfl:
    2) my mum: who faithfully buys her stuff from Savers and Asda, as they are much cheaper. in addition, a boots SA had been rather rude to her, so she will never go into boots.
    3) my sis: who uses my make up, as 'i cant slap so much foundation, bronzer, etc etc onto my skin anyway'.
    4) my brother: who is the exact copy of my dad.

(my family thinks i am a bit cuckoo up there. As i used to hate boots and have always 'moaned' abotu how rude the SA was. my mum even reminded me that i said "i will never step into Boots again", about 2 years ago.:o :o )

also managed to get my boyfriend to sign up:p

will keep all the cards locked up in a sfe place and take them to the ACM in July next year. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

if it's one of the old GWP's then they do sell them off at £6.50 but if it's the chines looking wrap one then it's worth the money for the stuff that's in it (use it for when you're going away at some point)

Good Bootsing by the way, well impressed!
:hello:  It's official I'm addicted to Boots - the total on my Advantage Card has gone over £300  :hello:

Ooh Ooh Ooh we have our very own insider amongst us....oh the joy! are people really sooooo stupid not to take advantage of a freebie? it must really kill you having to see all those vouchers go to waste, but you'll have to let us know the best way to keep the SA's from refusing to scan our vouchers when we're trying to pull a fast one.....does the talking incesantly really work - or is it best to use the being really nice policy????

Just be nice and TALK to the SA, if we get bored we are more likely to be mean lol!
Seriously though, talking a lot works as it distracts from reading vouchers (not that I do, I'll scan anything I'm handed lol).

Is there anybody here from Belfast? I might have served you! :D

Cheers :j It's the sort of dark pinky/purpley leathery bag with the gold handle, serves me right for trying to be sneaky and getting a freebie! It has in it a Liplicious, Refine and Rewind 5mls, Advanced Hydration Day Cream, Mascara, Nail Polish, Lip Pencil, Lipstick. I might ebay it then, reckon I would get my 6.50 back? I won't use it myself, I'm not a big make up wearer, especially lipstick
