These friends we visited last night - I am now beginning to feel quite sorry for them! I know that they have consolidated at least twice that I know of so if that's their attitude, think I'll leave them to it!!!!

I was once sneered at by a "friend" last year. For paying with cash and not a credit card!!

She just didn't get that I had actually paid for the day out, whereas she had only kind of "paid" for the day out.

Well, looking at her constantly miserable face, it's not doing much for her.

Perhaps she sings in the bath.

If these "friends" we all seem to have had their credit cards taken off them for 1 month - I wonder how they would cope???? And exactly how much month would be left without any cold hard cash!!!!!

I know someone who's just the same as your friends, but after some gentle probing, I found out that they're massively in debt. The husband admitted that it'll take them 27 years to pay off their debts and that excludes the mortgage. There's nothing I can do to make them change their attitude overnight, so all I can do is tell them about my debt and how I'm managing it, and how it really is true that if you take care of the pennies the pounds will take care of themselves.

Please don't just leave your friends to it. I know it's demoralising and hurtful at times, but they might be in denial and just need coaxing out with a gentle nudge and prod from you here and there. It might take months - years even - but they'll have their LBM one day. You'll be in a good position to advise them if you've set a shining example :A

Sorry if this sounds like I'm nagging you, but if my brother had given up on me (a two-times consolidator) I wouldn't be where I am today - proud to be dealing with my debts.

    Finally debt free!

The thing with money is that it's all relative, and all to easy to spend up to a certain level, so you can be on a hell of a whack and still be skint because you're spending it all.
I know compared to a lot of folk I'm well off - but it doesn't stop me being skint (not compared to the Beckhams, I don't think even I could spend that much.... could I?).

Oh I completely agree with you! And normally would be the first to explain about MSE etc etc etc. In fact many of my friends kind of twitch a bit and shuffle towards the front door when I have prattled on!

But these people - when they are right, they are right. When they are wrong they are right. When it is proven they are wrong......they are still right!!!!! I have bashed my head against a wall many a time and bitten my tongue so often I could pierce it myself!!!! The husband I probably could help, but the wife..................no. V Beckham would be seen in McDonalds ordering an extra large multi-burger-withextracheese-fries-fullfatcola-and dippingdonuts AND eating it all before the wife would climb off her high horse and listen to any advice or suggestions!!!!

Some people will take advice - but some people are like kittens - you have to really rub their face into it before they start to get the glimmer of an idea. Some other people...well you could stuff their head into the orifice in question and they still would be none the wiser.

Help who you can. But accept there are some you can't.

and when they're bankrupt and got nowt, I presume they'll still be right!
Just remember the saying: he/she who laughs last, laughs longest (not that you'd laugh at another's misfortune I'm sure, but sounds like this lot you'd raise a smile at!!!)
