Sorry but you've got this totally the wrong way round. Motability cars tend to get the minimum of care and are generally unloved by their owners. Thats the best case scenario. The worst case scenario is their driven within half an inch of their lives by some deadbeat relative of the little old lady who got the car.

Sorry, but I disagree with those comments come and have looked at my wife's car 18m old and is still in showroom condition.

My three ex motability cars have been fantastic, almost like new, low mileage and full service history. Can't fault them, and will buy ex motability again.

    Oh no doubt.

That doesnt mean they werent only maintained to the minimum standard and not treated with much TLC though.

I've access to the motability site for buying of cars and theres rarely any that dont need at least some 'refurbishment'.

On the plus side, it will have been serviced regularly (because thats 'free' to the user).

The best of them will be bought up by main dealers, the worst of them end up at fleet car auctions.

Thanks again for all the replies ,

Thanks for the concern , but I have the means to care for the car , I'm useless when it comes to cars and what to look for when buying , but Im not a total numpty to think the cost ends at buying the car :)

I think the overwhelming and correct thing to do is to buy from the dealership , in fact just looking at some now and I see a couple of under 30 mileage at a not to dissimilar price .

Also, you can buy your approved used BMW from any dealer, but your local dealer will still honour the warranty.

AND you can then extend the already excellent BMW warranty whereas once a BMW falls out of the network, you can never reinstate the BMW warranty.

Don't assume however you can say that about any used car can you not.??

That maybe the case, but I wonder if you access to all the ex fleets out there.???

Again your assuming they would not have any work done on the car if it cost them.

    Just like fleet cars then.

    Oh aye. Indeed.

Just dont believe all the BS that goes about that ex motability means its been nursed like a baby from new.

In case you think its just me, heres some quotes from other people on previous threads on here RE: ex motability cars

google it, I just did and all the auctions come up.

Ex motability cars can be a good buy but they come in two distinct groups Ive been told, the ones that have been run into the ground by people who just abuse them because they are not theirs and very low milage, imaculately kept cars that have been extremly well looked after by someone who couldnt use them much because they were to ill but garages do cherry pick the best of these.

And you need to look out for damage casued by mobility aids.

I cant remember the rest of it.

i worked at a vauxhall dealer and id say 9 out 10 motability cars were abused and badly knocked about

you might find a clean one...check carefully for paintwork/ bodyrepairs and any signs that it had disabled controls fitted

I have bought one ex Motabilty car to sell on, A Class diesel, three years old, looked OK, on closer inspection, all four wheeltrims needed changing for resale, it needed 4 tyres, worn, damaged and all different makes, it had a door mirror held together with glue, wouldn't even adjust, had to replace that, the spare was missing, as was the jack, stereo had the face missing. I am not the first to find such things on Motability cars, a lot of the people getting these cars are getting them because a relative has full rate DLA and lives with the extended family, so the car is used by the family as a "pool car". They are used and treated as a commodity by some, others, like my now deceased uncle, treated it like his own car, washed it, looked after it etc.
Ten year ago, ex motability where sought after by the trade as the people who got them where older and retired, now any chav from a council estate that has managed to get full rate DLA has one, all due to the recent increase in entitlement syndrome. Have seen have a motabilty car due to depression, skin conditions in his youngest son, even seen a family in London have a motability car where the recipient was bedbound after a stroke.

These cars are now on my avoid list, too much fraud and suchlike. For example my wifes friend managed to get full rate DLA, when not even legal in the country, after she slipped at work, has been off on the sick ever since, due to having a long term medical condition she can't be removed from the UK, as it would be detrimental to here health. She rented her motability car out, I believe it was £500 a month that she charged, or at least that is what she offered it to the wife for.
  • motorguy ,

I never even thought of that about motorbility cars , I must of just been lucky with my old ford fusion years back .
