Yes he has recovery with his insurance and phone charger. Acht teenagers!!! When
I can turn away my mind from dire thoughts of death or maiming, I am worried sick that an insurance claim from even a minor accident will force him off the road due to increased insurance costs. It was hard enough to scrape together the insurance this year, any huge hikes due to claims will mean no car, so no apprenticeship and job.

Postpone the journey. It isn't so important that they should put themselves at risk. Even an experienced driver can get into problems driving in those conditions.
Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!

If your son is being stubborn can you talk to your daughter & try to persuade her it's a good idea to stay put? Perhaps she might be more sensible. Plus being a girl she might be more turned off by the idea of being stick in a car for hours, using the hard shoulder as a toilet etc? I know that's what I would be thinking of! It's not worth your son messing up his insurance let alone anything else.

    Says it all really.
No shame in staying put a bit longer. Just point out to them that they'll be warm and much more comfortable than stuck in a cold tin can somewhere.
With his lack of experience, he really doesn't want to risk an accident. Doesn't matter if it's determined not to be his fault, his premiums will still rocket.

Says it all, why risk it when theres no need. I had my GS overnight last night and have just spoken to his mum who was to pick him up this morning, we decided it was not worth taking a risk and he will stay until tommorow.

My advice is to enjoy them now!:cool: I have 4, the 2 youngest are the 2 trying to get back from Aberystwyth today. All 4 of mine have been great kids but even great kids are a worry - especially when they are of an age to be away from home. I try very hard not to interfere, to let them have responsible freedom from an age when I considered them to be sensible, but OMG it is hard!
Oh to have pre-teens again, they really are the best years !

Thank you, they have just passed by and tree been removed. So far so good with journey, no matter what I said, they would not be persuaded to wait so I am just sitting here waiting with bated breath.

Hope they arrive home safely soon OP so you can relax and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

My dad arranged for me to do an advanced driving course after I had passed the standard driving test. It really helped me to be a safe and confidant driver. Went some way to delaying him going grey too :D

Might be worth looking into. Be proud of your son. I am sure he is nervous about travelling in rough conditions but what he learns from today will stand him in good stead for the future.
