Leaving Be Unlimited - Not pleasant

I had been with Be Unlimited ADSL for probably 7 - 8 years.
I decided to leave to get Fibre.
First, Be sent me a final bill for £45, completely random, without justification.
Then, they asked for the 7 year old Be Box modem (worthless) to be sent back. I did. A month later, they said I owed them £35 for the box as it had not been received. I provided them the proof of postage receipt (no tracking information), and suddenly, they said they had received it back!
Lots of tricks done to squeeze money from people leaving. I regret having recommended them for so many years.
For people staying with Be, call them to ask your MAC code, and you can get Be Unlimited for £9 a month.
I am with Plusnet now (download speed 6 times faster, upload speed 20 times faster): they are quite disorganized, but speed is good. I am actually paying less than what I was paying for Be!

Hi
I've been with Be about 6 years and I'll be gone when the 12 months half price broadband ends. Really sad to be leaving but Plusnet Unlimited Fibre looks good. (Did you migrate via Topcashback/Quidco?)
You mentioned that Plusnet are disorganised, what do you mean?Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
Plusnet are highly disorganised: their billing and ordering systems have many bugs, they give wrong addresses to OpenReach, they often don't track CashBacks etc. Also, their staff gives one answer on a forum, and a different answer on a ticket.
So if you move to Plusnet Fibre, be prepared to have to stay on top of it and check your billing and other details carefully. I must have raised about 20 different tickets with them on the first month.
However, once the initial issues are fixed (and they do fix them eventually), then it's fine, but I wouldn't advise them to someone not willing to get deeply involved or looking for a seamless transition.
I am surely happy now to have moved from Be Unlimited (12mbps/1mbps) to Plusnet Fiber Unlimited (getting 60mbps/20mbps), particularly given issues with Be and also the fact that I am paying less for Plsunet!0 -

Is the 12 months half price offer available to existing customers?

Hi
Yes, I'm still with Be. Just ring them, think the option is I want to leave. Say you want to leave and hey presto, 12 months half price broadband.:)Sealed Pot Challenge No 089-Finally got a signature.:rotfl::j0 -
When I requested my MAC code from Be, they offered me Be Unlimited for £9 a month, rather than £12 I was paying before. Not half-price, but still a good price. Existing customers should call to ask for their MAC code (code does not have to be used).0

I been with BE/02 for 5 years, and am very sad they have sold up! Would never have left them and happily paid more for the service and speed I'm getting.
When I told them I was leaving they offered me a years free! only had to pay for Line rental.
I can vouch for Plusnet being completely useless on start up! See the thread I put on here.0 -
As another ex-Be customer, who has also made the switch recently to Plusnet Fibre Unlimited, I too had random charges taken from me by Be. They refunded straight away when I rang up, and said the system had applied the express cancellation charge when it shouldn't have. Seeing a lot of others having this same issue not good.
For me the process of joining Plusnet has thus far been flawless. Engineer visit within a week of signing up, good speeds (72/18 down/up), cashback tracked (Quidco) and although I've not had a need to contact support, from what I've seen on their forums, the support does seem good on there. So I've been quietly reassured at the mo.0 -

I have been paying £9 for BE unlimited for the last 5 years.Child of a Fighting Race.0 -
Good for you. I am now with Plusnet Unlimited Fibre (60/20), and will be paying £5 a month for the next year, so I win...nogginthenog wrote: »I have been paying £9 for BE unlimited for the last 5 years.0
