Sorry can't see the box you mean? I'm trying every box on the HGST window and nothing seems to happen?

Tried to look at the guide and the infamous box with 'Program has to close' immediately appeared :(

The good news is I successfully uninstalled the old Adobe without a problem this time! :j and I decided to install the latest version instead which Ive done, also successfully (Hope you don't mind me not using Foxit?)
I confirm that i can now read PDFs normally once again so that's brilliant!! :T

With regard to the hgst download, although I can view and read the user guide, for some reason the table that comes up to do a scan/test, doesnt list the HDD (It's just a blank list) hence there isnt a box to tick?

Still, trying to see where I'm going wrong, I notice on the guide it says it's not designed to run on the primary drive - does that mean I need to have it on a separate hard disk for it to work? I'll have a go a transferring it over :) and see if it works from there.

I thought I had cracked it but it seems to only pick-up details of the separate HDD (Which passed the test) and not the one on my PC?
I've tried actioning it from the separate HDD but but it still doesnt list the main PCs HD - I'm obviously doing something wrong? :(

Oh dear, I was looking for info on the hard drive and came across the maintenance facility so decided to set that in motion upon a restart. sure enough the system did a scan of all files and appeared to be sorting things out before restarting again. Unfortunately rather than start up nice and efficiently I got the dreaded blue screen
Tried restarting in the hope I could get passed this only then get window saying it can't repair problem so can't start pc and do I want to send report to Microsoft. Trying again and it's now doing another scan of all files on the initial black screen. I fear the worse <Tearful smiley face>

After numerous attempts to get back into the computer, each time getting stuck at one point or another and doing a number of enforced disk checks, finally just got back in - what a relief!
Waddler-8, somethings definitely bad, is there anything I can do to fix this do you think? :(

I had problems with Adobe Acrobat misbehaving and ditched it in favour of Foxit a year or two ago. Great programme, much better than Acrobat and I haven't looked back since.

You may have to replace the drive, unfortunately.

This may give you more ideas on testing options.

OK thanks Waddler, you've been extremely helpful and very patient. Will have a good look at the site you've suggested and take it from there. Maybe just go for a replacement PC as changing Hard Dives sounds a bit complicated and possibly a bit expensive? although this PC isnt that old - will have to look at the pros and cons I suppose. There is a local PC repairer which Ive used before so could see what they say and how much a new drive would cost etc.

Meanwhile, thank you once again for your help and time!
