Yes I fear there are probably lots of those as have gone thru quite a number of PC disk repairs in an effort to get back into the PC after freezing etc.

I'm trying to see what I can do about the Acrobat, I'dd like to try uninstalling it but worry that I will get back to square one again, at least at the moment I can access everything reasonably trouble free but I know it will only be a matter of time when it goes bad again, probably when I need to read a PDF document :(

Try an alternative such as foxit.

I would backup though asap if you haven't already.

I would just backup your personal files/folders rather than doing a system image - just docs, photo's, music etc...

I've got to go out now so will look at doing the drive test probably tomorrow. I'm going to leave the back-up as it is for the moment (it's moved on to 60% so still going :j) My wife is going to keep an eye on it in my absence.

Thank you once again for all your assistance and I will report back with disk findings in due course.

    Hi Waddler-8,

I've download the HGST Drive Fitness for Windows but have no idea how to get it to do a test? Clicking on the scan box doesnt seem to do anything and it's the same with all other boxes?
There's an instruction saying "Double click on the target line of HDD to show Smart/test log" but that doesnt mean anything to me I'm afraid :o.

Incidently, in my haste, I initially downloaded the HGST Align Tool with the outcome that everything was already aligned?

Think my limited tech knowledge is now coming thru loud and clear :(.

Are you checking the box next to the HDD? User guide:

    It's a .pdf though. ;)
