    All mainline train stations have facilities to buy a ticket. They have exactly the same facility as a metro station e.g an automatic machine.

    Of course if your station doesn't have these facilities then its fine to buy a ticket on the train which is what the conductors are for.

    I said that not all of them have any facilities at all; not that none of them have any.
    While most stations have facilities, and the majority of those have them 24/7; there are also a lot of stations that have none at all even during the day.
