For the record I disagree with "dealer Wins" comments for the reasons other users have posted.

I have discussed with each staff member 1 on 1 the need for this to stop, and shown them how to go about getting the loan companies to only contact them in writing.
They seemed pleased to know that my intentions was only to stop the calls nothing more.

the advice I gave, having been in a similar position before was to talk to them, you have to at some point.
Or the other viable option would be CCCS.

Thats all for advice, I'm not interested in getting any deeper into my employees personal finances.
    CC1 - Owed £4500 ( Now owe £0)
    CC2 - Owed £4700 ( Now owe £0)
    CC3 - Owed £1800 (Now owe £0)
    CC4 - Owed £1500 (Now owe £0)
    CC5 - Owed £553 (now owe £0)
  • PDL companies know that most people do not want friends and family to know they are in financial difficulties and then completely ignore it when the money is to be recovered...

all may have been sorted now, but i'm sure that its a legal requirement that details not belonging to the employee have be removed from the PDL company systems at the 1st removal request, to avoid harassment cases and so businesses don't suffer from lost revenue

They are very rude on the phone, and telling them this is a business line and staff cannot take personal calls does not stop them.

What can we do to stop these calls ?
Are these payday loan companies in breach of anything by doing this ?

I'm looking at what the empolyer can do stop them calling us.

How about being proactive and warn staff that they should not be giving their work number out?

I don't think there is anything wrong with threatening disciplinary action against the employees.
If this is a business line then every call from a payday loan company is potentially a lost client.

If the employees know it is a business line and not for personal calls, why are they dishing it out?

How much company time is being wasted fending off phone calls or having one on one chats?

I would have an internal memo out right now stating that the issuing of company phone numbers for personal use is forbidden and a formal warning process will be followed if it is abused.

Stick some pay plan/ step change posters up too.

Lots of businesses go under when staff are not managed well, no matter how honourable the intention. Don't let staff take control, they'll walk over you

Exactly. The OP is an assistant manager but doesn't seem to want to manage...

When you apply for any loan, be it from a so called reputable lender or not, you supply your work phone number as well as other employment details.

As for the rest of your post, dearie me, dont know if any staff would want to work for such an !!!! as yourself. :), they certainly would not bust a gut for you, that is for sure.

If you think that the above is a way of managing people then i fear for your business, if you have one......
  • If several of your staff are using these lenders then it is obvious the pay is lousy.
I could understand one person in trouble but several ?
Start paying them a proper living wage
    Owing on CC £00.00 :j

It's like shooting nerds in a barrel

You don't know much about management, that's for sure! I take it you have a bit of a chip against management.

You aren't in school anymore, this business employs people so they make a profit for the company.

The post about paying employees more so they won't have to resort to PDL's is a bit naive to say the least. There are many posts on this forum from people who earn many times the national average, and are still in financial difficulties, due to their gross mismanagement of their finances.
It is very little to do with people's pay packets and more to do with ignorance of how to budget. Probably due to a lack of education on the subject of money management.
Unfortunately the difference between "need" and "want" has also passed them by.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
