Ive got Vista Ultimate & XP on the same machine running off separate identical disks and the Vista is much Sloooooooooooower. The XP installation has far more apps & stuff and is like lightning. No Driver issues with the Vista its just one speed sluggish !

Shame but I shall use it for Vista only Apps.

Out of interest how much Ram do you have in your PC?

    I have got 512mb Ram
When installed vista (fresh) without any other apps, it was taking ages to load as well (compered to XP)
So I am thinking it probably needs another 512 at least
  • Hey hey. Played around with Vista and have access to a legal Vista Business edition through the MSDN AA sites... However I just don't know if I want to! Would like some advice!

    Specs of pc: 2.6ghz P4 800fsb Northwood
    1gb Dual 3200
    6800 Ultra 256mb DDR2 AGP 8x gfx

So the specs are ok to run it... Also using the new Office (which i love)...

Are the bugs still a big downer on it or are a lot of them getting ironed out? When will Sp1 be released as well?

    Thanks

MSDN AA sites... you can only use that software for support and demoing and NOT on you main system. That is what the EULA states.

I'm sure I'll be developing something for it in my final year :p

Dual boot ! Why not just run both OS's ?

If you then like vista then use it if not continue using XP.

    Its messy :)

I want to do the same thing on both OS's... having 2 OS's running the same software and using the same files will get too messy to be honest. Especially if I then remove an OS. (and i already have about 6 partitions)

I have just bought a new PC with 1gb of RAM and VISTA and installed and am having major problems with getting ITUNES to work.
I have brought a brand new 30gb IPOD and downloaded the latest version of ITUNES (Allegedly Vista compatible) and the computer can't / won't recognise the Ipod via the USB ports.
It keeps asking me to instal the Ipod drivers CD, but the drivers are included (should be) with the ITUNES download.
Very much considering going back to XP.

You should be able to plug your iPod in and have it recognised as a Removable Drive. It does with my iPod, regardless whether iTunes is installed or not.

I don't use iTunes (as it sucks in Windows), but can get it all to work fine using SharePod, and Winamp.

XP at work still gives problems every couple of days or so...

wow didnt know anyone using 2K as a home machine! If i'm correct isn't windows 2000 the NT side? Guess it depends what type of work you do on the machine?

Surprised XP still giving problems every day...

I tend to think a lot of people find problems as they're anti-microsoft or go along with all the anti-windows discussions that go on.

From a personal and honest point of view, XP is solid and fine now that the major security updates happened, and Vista will follow suit.
