Er...Nurses? Care assistants? Cleaners? Cooks? Chambermaids? Bursar?
It still doesn't add up to £800 because the costs are spread across the entire nursing home. I would happily do all the above jobs for £800 per week and be a good companion too.

    24/7? When would you sleep?

Why would you need to be awake? Are their partners/carers awake all night before they go into nursing homes? The answer to that is no.

Very often it is these needs that lead to someone needing to go into a care home.

My father is checked at least hourly all through the night and needs time spent with him two or three times a night. Try doing that and then caring/shopping/cooking/cleaning/etc all day.

I find it all very confusing as always talks of the cap in respect of elderly so I can only presume the cap comes in after the transfer to pensions at 65 etc. Therefore I suspect there is no cap on disabled prior to that date. So could be any level over all.

I feel for your situation, but no one needs to clean all day, shop all day, or cook all day. Most care homes use the same service as airlines and provide regen meals costing around £1.50p each. It makes you wonder how those at home ever coped when they couldn't spend £800 a week, doesn't it :)

I'm afraid you are wrong here. The night care staff have to carry out on line reports every 45 minutes to show they are awake. They also have to take regular 'obs' from their patients. They would lose their job if they even took a nap.

Also, (unless you are qualified in these things) you couldn't give injections, change catheters (not just the bags) and treat sores and ulcers.

Not in his home - everything is cooked from scratch including the cakes and biscuits they have at elevenses and afternoon tea.

I don't think you have a clue about caring for a person in their own home or how expensive it is to provide professional care in a residential home.

I quite agree it is a hard job caring for someone who needs nursing care, you have to be in this situation to realise just what it entails........
My hubby is only 53 and I have to do all his nursing needs, every night I have to get up with him, and im 24/7 7 days a week..........

In nursing care homes the rates are higher due to the amount of care needed than residential care homes.........

I also dont think it cost £800 per week for one persons care , but I also dont think it would under £500 ish , if you work it out, and take this lot into consideration , you have qualified nursing staff, a matron, senior carers, cooks , cleaners, laundry, heating, caretaker, kitchen staff, cooks, office staff, etc, the lists go on, its not cheap employing people........But you have to have a certain amount of staff to look after the home.........

You're one of the lucky ones then. Most are turning along with local authority homes and hospitals to regen/cook chill meals which only require a heated cabinet. As for your last comment, I know all about it. Thank you. And I still say £800 is too much.
