I love meat, I would find it very hard to give it up.
Halight, you dont have to give it up completely just cut down your portion sizes. We eat some form of meat every day but have cut down the portion sizes dramatically. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
We have twelve girlies
When we've added a couple before, it's taken about a week for them to sort out pecking orders. But these two seem to have done as they're told straight away :rotfl:
I have Five In the Coop out side.
I Light Sussex ===Top Hen,
Also very large hen, She is the biggest, might might
Have something to do with she always gets to
the food first and makes sure she gets more
than her fair share:D
1 Speckleady, A hybrid, Crossed between a Sussex and a mayan.
3 Black rocks. (Last years one day old chicks that I had) Another Hybrid
Then there will be the four that are Now under heat, in the brooder.
So that will be 9 for us. That's coming unto what our large house will hold. Plenty are room in the run. But sleeping space will be a problem, The house can hold about 10 L/F in total.
We do have a smaller house that can hold 4 hens. that's emty at the moment. The chicks will go In there when they go first go outside, Until they are bigger enough to go in with the other hens.:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -

We have it most days too,
We have cut down on the amount we use.
Due to cost/money really.
i think many people have done this. Or will start looking at doing this.
Which yes can only be good In the long team, For Us and for the planet:jYou can have everything you wont in lfe, If you only help enough other people to get what they wont.:j0 -
Morning all!
:bdaycake:Happy birthday Flutterby!
The sun's out here, but its still flipping cold, and snow forecast for tomorrow, typical as it's my ladies who lunch day with my friend!
Quiet day here, not sure what's for dinner, will do some ironing later but first am off to have my face looked at to confirm the fancy potions have helped my skin, it was scarlet, dried out and burning, largely due to stress, but has ben a lot better until this week, the cold type virus I have had made it break out in a rash so have a couple of sore patches again, but much better than it was! Should have made the day out today after it, could have gone out with a face full of professionally applied make up and not frightened passing children:rotfl:
Oh well, better get dressed, am still having lazy mornings, needs to stop as will be back to work in less than 2 weeks:eek:
Have a good day allRIP Iain

Hi everyone,
Bit late today!:rotfl:
:bdaycake:Flutterby have a good one!
Just been over the butchers for veg, now going to have lunch of HM french onion soup. Dinner will be rice fish and sweet & sour sauce.
Found out why my scooter has been playing up, I broke the charger and bought the wrong replacement!:rotfl: Well, how was I to know? I know nothing about electrics! Anyway, got the right one now, and it's charging properly.
I have it up for sale at the moment, but apart from a dodgy reply wanting to pay with Paypal, which I refused I haven't had any response. Hope I can sell it soon, I want a slightly bigger one that my neighbour has for sale, but until mine goes, I can't get it.:o
Hope everyone is okay at the moment. My knee is healing a bit, though it's still sore.
Have a good day!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

Hi all
I was just going to pop in for long enough to say
Hoppy Birdday Flutterby:beer:
But I have to say, Halight makes some very valid points about animals raised for food.
As you know, I'm vegetarian - I can't even cook meat or fish, just the smell makes me heave; but I don't have a problem with people who eat meat/fish if they like it; I simply can't, is all.
Yes, animals are raised for food, yes, some of them don't have a very long time at all, but my feeling is that they should be treated kindly while they are alive, however long or short time that it.
I shall now get off my soapbox and fetch my coat.....:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -
Morning all.
Have just read yesterday's thread as didn't manage to get on here until this morning.
Lottiesmum: For the stain - I've always found that a good soak in Napisan before washing gets rid of most nasties.
lucyl: What you need is Samantha's nose. One twitch and the housework does it self. It doesn't work for me but you never know......
FB. Happy Birthday. Take absolutely no notice of Headlight's candles, I know you can't possibly be 90 today! Forgive him. He's a man.
Talking of meat, we went to the cash and carry yesterday and I picked up the most enormous leg of pork, £25 reduced to £15,
It is roasting in the oven as we speak, slid in corner to corner (too big to go in sideways) and filling the house with the most delicious aroma. I reckon that I can get a minimum of 40 meals from it.
So, it's roast pork with roasties, peas, carrots, cabbage(tossed in garlic butter) and apple sauce for lunch today. I was going to freeze the pork but no room in the freezer. However, little packets of sliced roast pork can fill in the gaps.
That and a clear out of the breakfast room will keep me busy today. My DB and SIL are coming to stay after Easter and the breakfast room is the only room we can eat in. Unfortunately it is a dumping ground at the moment for all sorts of detritus. Where is Samantha's twitchy nose when you need it?
Do you know, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a good hestering.
Oh, yes I can! (Draws discreet veil over memory.)

I totally agree.
Last time we were down the caravan we went to the farmers market. Whilst the animals were obviously looked after and well cared for i couldnt help but feel sorry for the animals, most of them were up for slaughter.
The one cow came close to the fence where i was standing and i felt so sorry for her knowing she was going to end up as dog food. Yes dog food, i heard the bidders talking amongst themselves. Apparently when they get to a certain age they slow down in the milk production and then they go to slaughter. I still well up when i think of it.
If i thought i could go vegetarian and get all my nutrional needs met without any additional cost to my husband, i'd go vegetarian. The thing that puts me off is the girl i was introduced to at a wedding several years ago. She was totally vegetarian and looked so ill (she obviously hadnt got her diet right).
Oh well, its going to be one of those days, the only thing ive done yet is make one bed. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Afternoon everyone
Halight - totally agree with you regarding children knowing where their food comes from, and I too have had funny looks in the SM when I've been talking to the boys about what meat/fish we should buy etc. Something else that I find really disturbing is the amount of people young and old that don't have basic cooking/food prep skills - was absolutely horrified several years ago when I was in the SM and a woman was in there with her daughter (approx 18 years old) and her mother (approx 70 years old) and it was just before Shrove Tuesday - and as usual all the SM's had special displays of all the ingredients and packs of "just add water/milk/egg". The SM had sold out of the "just add water/milk/egg" packs and the woman said to her mother and daughter "oh, what are we going to do for pancakes they haven't got any of the packs left, turned to her mum and said " what do you need to make them?", and to my horror the (approx 70 year old) said "I think it's flour, and eggs" but I'm not sure! She came from the generation where there was no ready made food - you had to make it yourself! I find that really scary. I know lots of people don't get any pleasure or struggle to find the time to cook, but it's an essential part of life. I personally feel that cooking good food from the best ingredients you can afford/buy is showing your family how much you care and love them - we all know now that a poor diet can cause so many problems healthwise and to your lifestyle. I'm not a wow wow cook, but can put a reasonable meal on the table and we certainly don't starve - just wish the Education Dept would get back to teaching all kids the basics of cooking - it's an essential life skill!
I'll get off my soap box now too ...........................!
Keep safe and well x

Hi all,
Happy Birthday Flutterby-hope its a good one. We've missed you, what have you been up to?
Just had a late lunch of an omelette and lots of green leaves.I bought the 5:2 dietbook reduced at Mr S so giving it a go as its only 2 weeks till DS and his DF engagement do and my dress is a little tight:o
I wanted to carry on in the garden but its freezing. We shifted a load of logs from the tree which was taken down at the weekend and chopped some yesterday as Dh finished work early but still a lot more to shift yet.DS mate who took it down is going to take some but hasnt yet.The trouble is my friend has asked if she can put her car here till after the weekend from tonight as they are going away, and there isnt as much room as usual,so I can see lots of shifting of cars esp when DiL2b arrives for the weekend:rotfl:
DGD is coming this aft as DS isnt working so she can come earlier,so I'd better get the hoover out in a bit.
Hugs to all x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
