  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY FLUTTERBY and happy ordinary day everyone else.

Yesterday was a lovely but expensive day. The train to London cost me £50 so it didn't give me much money to spend when I got there, especially with lunch and cabs on top. My mum has osteoarthritis in her hips so can only walk around the shops, not around the streets or on tubes (alledgedly).

I bought myself a scarf and some fudge at the Country Living Fair, there wasn't much else I fancied. There was a lot of fashionable vintage inspired stuff, but I won't pay silly money for a modern reproduction version of something I can pick up for pennies at a car boot sale, and that would be original too.

Anyway, I was too lazy to cook last night so we had a McDonald's. I know I shouldn't like them but I do. Tonight we will have the chicken curry I've been planning.

I've got to go on a training course this afternoon, the same one I turned up for a few weeks ago that they cancelled without telling me until I got there, costing me £2.70 in parking and 20 miles of petrol.

Then I have to take DS1 to the hairdressers. Almost 15 years old and he needs his mum. I suppose I should treasure these moments.

    Happy Birthday Flutterby :bdaycake: :D
Master tru bought me two chickens. They're 18 weeks old, I've called them Peggy and Millie :D They immediately made themselves at home on Timmy's cage. The cage is left open all day, had to shut it a bit quick when I realised where they were heading. They've settled in with the other girls really well.

Still not much going on here, mr tru is home this week and getting in my way, lol. We've visited a couple of garden centres and I've got lots of crocheting done. Roll on next week, when I'll have the house to myself again :D

    tru,
How many Hen's do you have now?

Its good that they have settled down well with the other hens. Sometimes you can get problems.

    We have twelve girlies :D

When we've added a couple before, it's taken about a week for them to sort out pecking orders. But these two seem to have done as they're told straight away :rotfl:

    Morning all,

Happy birthday Flutterbyuk. I hope you have a lovely day.

Slept well last night. In fact i didnt want to get up this morning. I didnt hear 'youngest' go off to college either which is amazing as his hairdryer usually wakes me up if i'm not awake already.

Anyone tried haggling in Chinese? No? Nor me but i'm going to have a go.:D

    Jobs for today

    Vacuum downstairs
    Tea - Steak
Converse with the Chinese and explore import duties
Strip the beds and launder bedding

Ebay.... A couple of items i listed the weekend have sold. I never thought they would so i'm pleased about that.

Waiting for Mr Postie, he's got some vouchers and [STRIKE]makeup [/STRIKE] useful items for me.

All in all, not a great day so far but a good one nonetheless.:)

    Have a good day all,

ps. Anyone know how to talk in Chinese? :rotfl:

Halight I agree about the chickens, I didn't last long working for them, I realised they didn't care much for the animals and only wanted to make money

    Please don't get me wrong.

I do believe that its a good idea that kids learn were our food come's from and also about animal develop,

@Home is the best place to learn this,

But I know that this is very rear that this is the case, A good many Adults would not know that bacon comes from pig! I kid you not!

In the animal Business, Most only really care about the profit, And the Animal.
Profits need to be made, I know that and I don't stand ageist anyone or any company that makes them.

But I do think there is a better way of doing this Hatching In schools.

I think there needs to be more time spent with the Chicks, the school was going to keep them for two weeks. now while they will get feathers in that time, And they will double in size. I do not think that two weeks is long enough to learn about there growth. They Kids only spent 5mins a day learning about the chicks. All got to have a hold, Which I something I like to see. But to turn round and dump them at one week!
Whats that showing the kids? When you have had enough of the pet you can just get shot of it?

I also believe that the kids should be told the hard facts of life.

Hen's are go onto become eggs layers,

!!!!'s are Worth very little and will be culled as soon as the Chick can be sexed or at best will go on to be fattened up and send up on your dinner plate,

How many of the Kids even knew that the Chicken Nuggets that Mum Fed them last night can from the same animal as the Little chick that sat In there hand ?

Our Twins know the truth about food, Pork comes from Pigs, beef comes from cow's. Lamb comes from Sheep. And Chicken comes from the things that Live up the Garden, They know we don't eat our chickens, They Know that ours are pets. The same as the Cats,
But they know that we do eat the same sort of animal.
They know that for us to eat meat a living animal has to die, So they know that they have to respect this by eating all there meat on there plate, Try not to waste any,

Hard fact's of life learnt at an early age. But at there age they just accept this sort of Info from who ever tells them They take it on board,

I have had some funny looks of people In the supermarket when Iv asked the Girls, What do you won't for dinner tonight?
    Cow,Pig, Chicken ?

One day I hope that the girls will decide to stop eating meat. As a race of people we In the west eat far to much, And its taking its toll on the world.
The UK alone Kills 250 million Chicken's a year! That's Just our little country. You need to add all the cow's/Pig's/Lamb'Goats and every thing else.

I love meat, I would find it very hard to give it up. But I do hope my own kids will, Looks at things In a better way, And if not give up then grow up to be two people, That only eats it a few times a week.

Teaching our kids is the most important thing we can do.

We seem to have lost this over the last 10-20 years and have put all our Hope in Kids that leave school with bits of paper saying that they can add up,
But that leaves them not even able to cook an egg, Let alone know were that egg has come from?

Bappy Hirthday Flutterby Hope you get tremendously spoiled.:):):)

Bit nippy here in north Kent although its dry. I'm just about to start my ironing I usually like to get it out of the way by Thursdays so the weekend is free for baking and seeing my family. I have no shopping to buy at all this week as I am (as my youngest DD called it 'Ecomousing' :):)) Lunch will be left over mash, carrots, and a few brussels from last night, only have to 'ping' them in the m'wave plus a small portion of chicken and leek pie from the freezer. When I make a pie once its cooled down I divide it into four and it is then frozen into four quarter portions.I shall bung it into the Remoska to warm through and lunch will be cooked in less than 15 minutes.Tonight eldest DD wants to go to Bluewater as she has some Lakeland vouchers to spend so I will be going with her, hence having dinner at lunchtime. We will probably get a coffee and a snack there after a wander around the stores as its late night shopping.I have some M&S vouchers left from christmas so I may have a shufti in there as well as the M&S is huge there.
Right off to do battle with the ironing
have a great day whatever you are doing
    Cheers chums JackieO xxx
That's two trips to Bluewater in a week,I'd go to the opening of an envelope :):):)
