What Currency Barbados?

Hi
We are due to travel to Barbados in June and I wondered what currency we should take?
Some websites have said US $ and then others say to take sterling and change when there. Most i have seen have said not to get Barbados $ before going.
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

I personally wouldn't take us$ it got on my nerves having to trying to work out how much things cost, trying to convert the prices that were in barbadian $ into us$ then into sterling. Although 1$ bills are good for tipping. As for not buying barbadian $ before you go because you get a better rate out there it depends what the rate has been 6 months before you go. The rate maybe good now and when you go in june it may have dropped so therefore it would have made sense to buy some now, although it may go the other way and be higher in june unfortunately no one knows.
  • Tourist currency is definately US $.
Barbados has its dark side, be sensible and don't tour alone, especially at night

Utter nonsense. Barbados is more British than Britain.

Take Sterling or better still just use a suitable card in an ATM. No need to take currency at all. Certainly poor advice to change £ to US$ to take there.
    As for your warning....please.

We found that it was best to have most of our currency in US$ but to keep a small amount in Barbados $. Most of our purchases were on our credit card however.

We never went anywhere at night, preferring to stay on the resort.

Other advice: beaches are all public in Barbados so you will get traders coming along when you are close to the water (they're not allowed on resort property). Don't buy aloe vera from them as the hotel will charge you for staining the sheets with it. Don't be tempted by those selling "ganja" (marijuana) as it is illegal. Some of the supposed ganja sellers are undercover plice officers and they will arrest you and throw you into jail for the rest of your holiday.

    .

I think you are a little out of date, I visited Barbados just last week. I don't expect you realise that TWO tourists were murdered just 3 weeks ago (P&O Cruisers)
