Do you leave work on the dot?

When the clocks strikes you finishing time at work, do you get up and walk out? If you are in the middle of something,do you finish it or just leave it to the following day?
If there is a continuous stream of work (ie, a place thats open after your finished) at what point do you stop, as soon as the clock strikes?
I am asking this because alot of people in my work (NHS) do.
Including me alot of days.:o I get paid a small amount compared to some people i work with and they leave right on time, so I never feel compelled to stay although I do always feel guilty.
Can you get repremanded for leaving the minute you are due to?

No, I don't get reprimanded. I successfully structure my working day, manage my workload and - most importantly - manage my customers' expectations so that I'm not "in the middle of something" at 5pm. And my managers don't have a problem with that.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Always left on time at all jobs and others seemed to think 4.59pm was the time to go! Sometimes you would leave at 5.05pm and no one was around. We’ve had to remove your signature. yes I always left on time, we were never reprimanded as our contract stated start and finish times, plus overtime was never paid unless you were asked to do it.0

I arrive about 20 minutes before, to get a brew, switch my PC on etc.
I leave around my finishing time, sometimes later if I'm in the middle of something.Bad luck breeds bad luck.

Same for me, dont get overtime unless asked. There is a always a do gooder that looks at the clock when others are leaving. Havent they got a home to go to!0 -
I unfortunately don't have the type of job where you can just up and leave at finish time. It's nothing to do with me not prioritising my workload you just never know what's going to come in. It's part of the job. My colleagues and I though try to take it in turns as to whose going to stay late if needed. It's just more fair that way.
We don't get paid overtime either. Have to take it as time owning which is equally as much of a pain in the backside to arrange because you just never know when you can take it! This week I'm already owed 3 hours. On top of last week and the week before that its now 15 hours.
Ill be lucky to get that back before Xmas....0 -
hahaha that true, there is woman I work with. You can always see her out of the side of your eye looking at the clock if someones late, leaves early or on lunch.
I always shout out when she is late.Bad luck breeds bad luck.

No chance - technically I work 37.5 hours per week but I tend to arrive by 8.00ish and I'm often there till mid-evening because a deal has come in late in the day. I don't get paid overtime or TOIL. 2011 was a particular bad year - we were there till 10pm most nights (let's hear it for the take-away delivery people) and came in every weekend because there was a massive project on. None of us really minds and there are no clockwatchers - it's fascinating work and it's expected in the industry."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

Wish I enjoyed working that much. I would be bitter by now!!
Cant believe you didnt get toil or overtime. Thats bad. You are not a charity, but I guess if you dont mind and find it interesting. I am jealous of people who love their jobs!0 -

I expect they've forgotten it whilst they're picking up the slack for you leaving on time
Personally, I'll leave on time if I have a specific need to, otherwise I'll try and do at least 30 minutes extra each day. I don't get paid for it short term, but I've seen promotions in both my previous jobs through positive attitude and certainly know people who have been passed over for promotion for working strictly 9-5. Don't necessarily agree with it, but it's the way the world works.0
