Yes, they did. As soon as somebody developed a workable CFC-free aerosol propellant, CFCs got banned, all aerosols went over to the new stuff, and we all forgot about the ozone layer. I think I remember reading somewhere that now we've stopped attacking it with CFCs it's gradually replenishing itself. :)

Years ago I was working with somebody who worked for the government project that identified how power station emissions were a source of acid rain. He described how they'd fly over the stations monitoring where the acid gases ended up being carried by the prevailing winds.

I asked him how they knew which power station chimneys were supplying the acid rain. He sheepishly confessed that in thos innocent days they marked each chimney's output by doping them to emit different CFCs so the individual plumes could be identified.:D

Still trying to sort youngest out, he has been given a different design in inhalers to see if he is more willing to use it in public...doesn't appear to have worked as all he wants to do is take it apart to see how it works and is refusing to use it in public because, yep you know it, it looks different. Arrrrggghhhh.

He is back at school now though, not willingly but he is there. They have stepped up his support once more, he had a long talk with the autism outreach person yesterday afternoon (first day back) and he will be having a referral back to CAMHS.

Glad there's been a little progress. Hope to be reading about more progress soon.

    I'm great thanks! :A

Hope you and foundinrates are well and your extension is progressing nicely!?

I'll write updates at the other place - this place moves too quickly for an occasional visitor like myself.

Bandwidth error message :(, I'll attempt again later.

    Welcome back Malcolm. :)

Good luck NDG, trust me the people you represent and the little people on the opposition's side are far more scared of you! I had to employ a barrister once and she scare the heck out of me, but she was very good!

I think my barrister's amazing - definitely glad he's on my side. I met some of the other barristers at a pre-inquest thingy (sorry can't go into details) recently, and they all seemed very nice and not scary, but then I haven't seen them "in action" yet. It's all still moving very slowly. We have a date for the inquest but it's months and months away yet, and the litigation is pretty much stalled until after that, AFAIU.

PS I'm getting closer to catching up, lir, and will post some more updated info when I get there, but in the meantime I shall just say that we're OK, and thanks for asking. :):T

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I know it sounds pathetic, but I really feel a bit fragile.

its covered I warnings about suicide and depression

It does not sound pathetic, lir. You have a lot going on - as you have had for quite some time. You are not the only one on the thread struggling with getting going/ making a decision etc. It may not feel like you, but it is understandable.

Ok, so it sounds like the surgery is being rubbish - are you on the meds indefinitely or for a defined period of time? Can you contact the private Dr who prescribed them originally and tell them how you are feeling? No need to answer on here, but might be worth thinking about.

I agree with zag and Spirit, I think you should complain. I also understand that you don't feel like taking on another fight, so could you let resident parent write their letter? Theydid hear the conversation first hand.

I want to give you a great big hug x

Edit: I meant to say that I think if it was someone else who had been treated like that I can imagine you encouraging them to complain if they could, to try and help all of the other patients (past/ future) who were less able to do so

That tile is not what I would choose ideally. It's ceramic, not stone. It's white, not stone white. But it's a lot cheaper than the split face tile.

It's going to be easier to take care of. Hmmm.

Imagine you have the stone white stone tiles. Now picture yourself cleaning and maintaining them.
Are you feeling glad that you went for the aesthetics or resenting the additional effort?

lir, so sorry you have to deal with the inadequate surgery. Half of me says complain so that others don't suffer in the way you are suffering, the other half of me suggests getting a private GP for when the surgery is just too difficult to deal with.

A quick question for Lydia - what is the (specific) heat capacity of water and how many joules in 1kwh? (Or better still how many kwh does it take to warm 5300 litres by 1 degree?)

Sorry I wasn't around to answer this when you asked it. SHC of water is 4200 J/kgK. 5300 litres is 5300kg, so that would be 5300*4200 J = 5300*4200/3600000 kWh = 6.2kWh. So well done zag. :)

Faint of heart, look away now.
In a healthy person, there's no bacteria in the bladder at all, and precious few in the urethra. The bladder empties completely so the inner walls touch.
If bacteria get in they break down the urea to ammonia and the pH goes up to 11 which is why it would be so iritating to wee. The bacteria that invade the bladder are highly mobile ones.
Not had it (but it's rarer in blokes anyway). Don't want it either!

In blokes it's usually an indication of something more serious. My PhD supervisor had it more than once, prompting further tests that revealed he had polycystic kidneys. :(
Cystitis is one of those things I know about from far too much personal experience. A lot of people have a sort of weakness - something they get when they are tired, run down, ill with something else. Some people get an ear infection, or tonsils hurt, and I get cystitis. So do my mother and one of my sisters.

I first started getting it when I was about 8, and far too often since then.

Lots of sex is definitely one of the risk factors, though. I think it used to be called the honeymoon disease? Something like that, anyway.

I get two types - one is an infection, and worse, and the other is sort of bladder inflamation, for some other reason, and not as bad. Fortunately, the infection type is rarer for me.

Cystitis is one of those man flu things - women get it much more, men get it more badly if they do get it, and all the nasty remedies say "women only, men go to the GP".

Me too NDG. :( Nasty remedies never work for me. My wonderful GP fixed things for me nearly 20 years ago by prescribing a v low dose of preventative antibiotics. 2 or 3 days without them is enough to make me get it, badly, and need a proper dosage course, but as long as I keep taking the low dose I'm fine. :)
