500l is huge so I am guessing that the temp is low because of the current/possible future heat sources and also possibly slow recovery times?
Our boiler is 20kw (so twice the power of a typical electric shower) and can pretty much keep the boiler up to temp even if a shower is being run so the 300l tank is quite big enough to support 3/4 bathrooms and 2 sinks.I think....0 -
That sounds awful, bugslet.
I think that a care home where the staff are genuine and caring and the resident is happy is rather like a mechanic who's trustworthy. There are plenty of them about, but working out which ones they are isn't always easy upfront. I'm so glad you've found one for Mr bugslet.
After James was born I worked in a care home. I got the job because of the care and attention I said I would provide, that the resident would be the important one.
Fast forward to a few months later and I got told off for putting the resident first and making them feel secure and happy. They even provided a timed list of how much time I could spend with each resident regardless of how upset the resident felt or needed to talk. The worse one was a resident who they thought wanted/needed no help at all getting undressed and into her chair (she had severe arthritis and mobility problems after a stroke) and I felt awful about possibly embarrassing her by my staying and helping her.
Unfortunately, the first night I tried to stick to instructions, she got most upset when I abandoned her at the undressing part, I explained why and apologised for putting her in a awkward position and she then said she had been asking for help and because her speech was not clear, they had been ignoring her!
I carried on helping her to undress and get into her chair after that and ignored the instructions from above.....
I found that the home just didn't listen to what the residents were saying, or did listen but then labelled them attention seekers or difficult. For some unknown reason, all the 'difficult' ones that everyone else had a problem with, I had no problems with at all...all I did was listen. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

It's actually a little bigger, but cannot remember exactly. No, it's meant to work solely off the boiler but adding other sources can reduce boiler need.0 -
we got a quotation that was inline with other quotes but the bill was 50% higher than the quote, had they quoted that we would have gone elsewhere.
If you got a written quote for the work, that's the price you should pay.
If it was a written estimate, then the extra would be payable.
Thing is - you probably had a verbal estimate over the phone.0 -
I mentioned earlier in the thread our snow isn't melting.
Check this out from the local press, as it still isn't going anywhere!

CHC
e.g. if I give you 10 tablets and tell you to give them to him 2x a day for the next 5 days, you don't need to be medically qualified to do that. However, if a nurse needs to come each time and decide if 2 tablets is enough/too much/wrong drugs - then it's nursing. Stuff like adjusting/administering morphine through a drip to a terminal cancer patient would require nursing, getting them to the loo and giving them a dinner isn't.0 -
For LIR, rather than thinking of putting in a dual-immersion, which is on the E10 rate, like Viva's, I'd be simply thinking "bang in an electric shower". Hot water on demand, no fuss - just requires water, a plughole - and a new/direct to the fusebox hefty cable suitable for the shower's power needs.0

Next step, challenge the decision. I don't know the intricate details, but I'd be arguing his level of care needs qualifies him.
!
As pasturesnew has just said, it's that level of nursing care that is missing. TBH, I don't disagree with the result in terms of him not really requiring nursing care. If/when the cancer kicks in, then it will escalate his requirements. The only annoying bit is the perennial joy of being in the same place with the same care and paying when the person next to you is not paying. But that's life and I save my wound up moments for bigger things.0 -

I think we are going for electric power showers. I'm thinking of the bath.
(Edit...in the bathroom that is next on the list, the one in the back bedroom...we are talking about having both a 'ceiling showerand a wall one....for rinsing. . We were also talking about having a shower head in the bath for rinsing, but I think that might be excessive. And less 'aesthetic'. How many shower heads does one need in one bathroom anyway....0 -

Eletric power shower will never give as much flow as a tank fed system and is noisy.
In our Ensuite we have a ceiling 'drencher' that has LEDs that show blue for water too cold and red for too hot and a normal wall shower on a height adjustable rail in the walk in 'wet' shower and then the tub has a wall mounted mixer with a waterfall spout and a seperate hand shower...I think....0
