Anyway, dh just said invite IS for him. Whoa.

I just had a feeling it would be :)

Knowing extremely little about his his work environment etc, and at a complete guess... I bet he is very highly regarded and they envisage him being in those kind of circles.
If I win the Euromillions on Friday, I'll buy you a last-minute ticket :)

Had a conversation about flights this afternoon. I pointed out to someone that the few times I've flown for work, I've paid for the flights, therefore flying economy wouldn't bother me in the slightest. (I'm not definitely flying anywhere yet)

We didn't, not in the least. His new boss does like him, a lot. They talk chickens often. (He became a chicken keeper under dh's guidance when dh was a trainee.....now he is chicken crazy!). Also as a trainee new boss invited dh to his house to eat a meal with his wife and him, And new boss was one of those fightingagainst nasty boss and said to the partnership he had been trying to get dh for ages and been told dh was too busy/valuable so to now say he wasn't needed was barking, so he'd have dh thank you very much. New boss has funny habits, like putting conference calls on silence so he can ask dh about a particular foible of a favourite hen, or what dh and I do for red mites, or what breed he might try next....and dh has to say, ' new boss, this is easy for you, but I need to hear to keep up, can we, discuss this later.....' And new boss and he email chicken talk instead.

Dh is finding new dept MUCH less stressful environment. It's a better team, but the area of work is completely new. Personally I think it suits him quite well. It's not the most cut and thrust area, but its rather academic. Dh has worked in three specialisms, this one, nasty boss one and big boss one. Big boss one was the most fun, and most dynamic, but its also the first to suffer cut backs in a crisis. In this one the cut backs are fewer and the hours are generally better we are finding so far. There hasn't yet been a problem at two am on a Saturday morning that they HAVE to call about. Sounds good to me.

Dh really dipdn't expect it to be for him, and he forward it to me jokingly this morning saying he wondered which of the people in the firm with his first name it was really meant for (email essentially read 'found' are you coming to this and if so are you alone or bringing guest/s?...which sounds like a more senior persons invite.

Anyway its good. It's a good chance to snooze, which he'll do better without me because he can work the room without worrying I am ok...and those talking to me are ok :rotfl:;)

    Wouldn't a lottery win be good? :).

tickets may not be as expensive as you think they are. if the flight isn't full, it may be discounted to pad out the flight. June isn't a particularly busy time so might be worth having a look see.

i'm a bit worried about the amount of ibuprofen i'm ingesting but i figure it is only for 2-3 days. (I do know better but I've had enough of this stupid pain and the hayfever on top of it is making me intolerable)

Hope everyone else is doing well!

    Poor Misskool. Not long now.

Flights are expensive. Cheapest economy ticket he has found for him so far is circa 1500.

As long as you are keeping to the dose on the packet the ibuprofen should be fine, out of all the nonselective NSAID's it has the lowest incidents of side effects. It's worth keeping a closer eye on blood pressure than normal.

    Good luck at the doctors!

I'm a bit surprised that if it is a works do the tickets can't be claimed as an expense. (Not that I've ever been to one at that level :)

His is, mine wouldn't be. Spouses get to go, stay in the yummy hotels and go to the meals. But we payout own travel.

For flights, he's allowed to choose his own from best airport to him and to best fit his commitments. O'tea is available night before start to facilitate long distance. It's good form to find 'good prices' but obviously, no one expects transfers to reduce costs.
It starts Monday lunch so we're trying to see what the longest he could be here on Sunday would be. I look. His secretary looks then he chooses one. :)

Edit: it often makes sense to buy your own and submit expenses for refund, of collecting miles or stuff. Otherwise it goes through on their card so an expense, but not 'claimed' as such,...just a signature each month to check he's not abusing things.

Edit o'tea was meant to be hotel
