Hope you don't have to move any time soon, Viva x
And lir - hope you shake off the cold asap. As previously mentioned, I take echinacea when a cold comes on, and it does seem to do the trick. Whether that is placebo or not, I don't know (and don't necessarily mind), although considering what I now do for a living, I should probably do a little more reading about what the side effects might be!
On a totally trivial note I'm delighted the current Doctor Who is moving on- he was far too young. My fave was the second doctor but the two before Matt Smith were OK.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
My daughter has come across a chap called Richard Fidler, which is inevitably shortened to !!!!!! Fidler. How can parents inflict this on their kids?
In the meantime, much schoolboy amusement for the rest of us, with just a smidgeon of guilt (but not too much). No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Viva, hopefully you'll find just what you are looking for. Friends of ours attached a sort of bower with a waterproof roof and one side open to the back of their house. It's lovely to sit in when it's raining, watching the rain pour down just a few inches away whilst completely dry.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

Re colds, dh's thing for this one has been some sort of tincture of pelargoniums. I don't think its made the blindest bit of difference but it does tase like a very herbal cocktail, so I'm not complaining.0

I don't think it is just political correctness that has made me frustrated that the last few doctors have been white men. I can't see why the doctor can not be reincarnated as a different race or a female.I think....0 -

No nor me. He isn't human after all, so why he needs to look and talk like a white British male - particularly given the global audience - is beyond me.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? On the other hand, I don't see why it should matter at all what colour or sex Doctor Who is. It should be about who is right for the role, rather than shoe-horning someone in because they tick a box IMHO.0 -

Don't disagree with that and if the right person to play the role happens to be a white British male that's fine. However that's exactly who they've shoehorned into the role for about the last 50 years.
There's a few people I think would make fabulous time lords, though I doubt any of them would be chosen for pretty obvious reasons (way too rich, famous, picky or up to something else): Jim Parsons, Daniel Day Lewis, Helen Mirren, Johnny Lee Miller, Jane Horrocks, James Earl Jones, Benedict Cumberbatch....
Maybe we should have a fantasy table of NP time lord picks. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I happened across two Turkish men when I was a pupil, called (I promise) Mustapha Kok and Mustapha Kunt....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I think it's PC-ness that makes you frustrated. There's no reason the doctor shouldn't be a white man as he has been so far.
I don't care either way. That's more neutral....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
