Silvercar, that is exactly the sort of thing James would do!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Used to travel to the US a fair bit. On one of my first trips I rang the checkin desk at Gtwick to confirm the flight time. I'd only allowed myself time to get there 20-30 minutes before the flight, assuming that would be plenty of time.

They sounded outraged on the phone saying they were all checking in right now. I was at Clapham Jn and there was no gatwick express back then. When I got to the airport they were callng my name and I dashed through security and got on the plane just in time, presumably to the contempt and fury of the passengers who'd made the effort to get there on time.

In America though everybody used planes as casually as we take a bus.

And the trains were woeful. There's hardly any, they're expensive and you'd be quicker walking! :o

If ever a country needed a bullet-train network, that's the place!

:o I was working for an airline and flying on said same airline - with 1hr before the flight we stopped in short stay and checked in then I took car to long stay whilst others stayed in the airport. Just missed a shuttle bus and then there was a extra large gap to the next bus and no option to get a taxi from long stay as there are no taxis there.

Finally bus came, the rest of the party were already at the gate telling the staff that I had checked in bags (I hadn't GF and I had a joint bag checked in her name) and so it would take longer to offload me than wait for me as I was 'just round the corner'. Jumped the line at security and ran down to the (far) gate couldn't understand why I kept saying to GF on phone 'which way and how far is it' to which she always replied 'just round the corner' because the boarding agent was standing over her. Eventually got there was ushered straight on to the bus and I virtually collapsed from too much running.

Did I mention the role I was doing for the airline was a special 'departure punctuality' project?!
    I think....

Thanks - I didn't know if they were still required, or not.

    Cutting it fine.

DS1 has a weekend away, flying out of Gatwick tonight.

He gets from train through security in 6 minutes, airport virtually empty.

Phew! I have a few more grey hairs!

Sounds completely like my brother and my Mama.

Bruv once asked Mama to ring him to make sure he was awake in time to catch a coach to somewhere.

Bruv was, at the time, in Australia somewhere. Bruv's adoring older sisters all thought that Mama should let him catch or miss the coach all by his little self.

Has customer service ever existed in Russia? I try to avoid the country like the plague, unless it's for work. It's not the people that are the problem (I have a Russian passport), it's more the fact that the shop assistant has in some cases paid a bribe for the job, the shop owner pays a bribe to the government not to be inspected/closed down etc.

As in Russia, anything can be. I absolutely hate it, but it's unfortunately a way of life.

I like Russia a lot, it's a wonderful place. I think living there would drive me up the wall, though. But visiting it is magical.

Grrrrr.... wanted to go see my parents and bro today but route to theirs takes me down an EDL marching route and possibly counter march route. So staying at home instead. Why are they trying to inflame things when the family itself has said it doesn't want the son's name used that way?

Sorry, viva, I think you are looking for logic in a non-logical situation.

Well annoying for your proposed day with the family, though! Can you go tomorrow instead?

I can go tomorrow. My parents house is closer than I would like tbh. I've spoken to my parents, told them what's happening. My mum's a bit scared. Dad's pretty laid back about that sort of thing. I think there are a lot of police there, so not sure if I'd be able to park nearby anyway. I'm hoping that they'll go out for the day instead.

Couldn't you just drive around the four or five EDL marchers who will actually turn up?
