The way I view it is that SingleSue's kids are different, because IIRC they are somewhere on the Autistic spectrum. Anyone on the autistc spectrum is going to find it much harder to deal with exams than a 'typical' child.

Just the disruption that exams cause is probably going to be a real issue for her.

Of course, I might be remembering wrong.

No, you're not remembering wrong. Her middle and youngest are on the Autistic spectrum, but her eldest isn't.

Also, being allowed to do exams on a laptop is of more use in some subjects than others. It's great in subjects like English and history, where all you have to do is type or write paragraphs of text. In science and maths where you have to do equations and diagrams, it brings its own problems.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

They are gorgeous, LIR! Do you need to do much for them, or do you stay out of the way and leave them to Mummy?

Well, um, considering I didn't know they were there.......

IME chickens are very good at raising chickens. I like the ones where the hen goes missing and comes back a month later with chicks and a 'yeah, and?' attitude.

More hand reared ones are tamer, certainly, but the chicken raised ones are wilier and more canny.

Ours will probably be a mixture. The three bantams are all rather tame, so the chicks should learn not to have fear of us, and soon I guess we'll give treats and be seen as the givers of food. I have no inclination to clicker train any at the present time though.

Bit like cats and kittens, then, rather than say lambs and calves?

    Oh, you mean actual hatching?

If they are ion the incubator its hard not to help, but helping can do more harm than good. In the past I have done all sorts,..softening shell that will not come of, and even making 'orthopaedic shoes' for ones born 'not right'. I now hold nature is wiser than I and orthopaedic shoes are a faff and probably painful. The chick is either left if it seems ok, or dispatched otherwise.

This batch is pretty incredible, jojo is tiny, to hatch and keep eleven warm is incredible. Eight would be good going IMO. There were two more in the nesting box, that had hatched but not survived :(. But tbh, how she is coping with the number she has is pretty impressive. I wouldn't be overly saddened if she lost a couple.

But yeah, I can leave her to it if I want.....I put out chick mash for them and they are happy.

I'm sure that's the case. Cats are very good at raising kittens, but I shoudn't think lambs would do a very good job of raising calves at all. ;)

Probably too late. They need to have been kept warm with few short breaks ( chickens they say twenty mins max) and the mother will have been scared off.

(Edit...you could I suppose try hatching them if your airing cupboard is the right temperature, you would need to put a bowl of water in there too) but you will need to turn them completely at least twice a day.

I am not sure about this at all, but I think one is not meant to disturb nesting birds in the same way as one mustn't uproot wild plants to plant at home.
