Eurovision +the right company (+ alcohol if you are that way inclined) is one of the best nights on TV :)

Last night some friends were having a drag queen party ( they were keen for me to o and be a diva for them :D) I equate both sort of things in terms of enjoyment and entertainment genre in my mind......as sort of 'if I have nothing else on' things. Eurovisian is more likely only because I 'm more restricted to the house. I watch it, take the piddle out of it and chat here then get slightly depressed that this is what my life has come to.....I'd far rather be at the drag queen party with riotous friends being a fag hag for the evening ( dh wouldn't though )

Mrs Zag and m'good self have been enjoying the Voice for weeks. I don't find all the songs for Europe equally listenable but the Voice blind auditions are just brilliant- there's hardly a singer there who's rubbish to listen to.

I watch the voice but DH doesn't like it. I thought the Welsh woman last night - she sung in Welsh for anyone not watching - was amazing and haunting and that the language gave the song a mystical quality. It's such a shame that she didn't go through as the people who would have chosen her (Tom, Danny) had full teams.

Well I love Eurovision and long may it live! I also wondered whether the format has been rolled out to other places. For example South America, Africa or the Far East could or already do hold their own contests if the format is becoming more economically viable. It could help bolster large markets for those unable to penetrate the oh so powerful US/UK dynamic. For that matter, I'd love to see a one off contest in the US, where all of the states have an equal weighting, so California/Texas/NY wouldn't win every year. It should be called the Great American Song Contest - there you go, I've already done the marketing..

Parsnip chips...... we had them in the 70s when there was a potato shortage and prices doubled so we couldn't afford them any more :)

Mr S makes delicious parsnip crisps. We usually only have them as nibbles when we have people over.

And that is one of the fundamental differences between the UK ... and Europe :)

Last year DD went to a eurovision party hosted by a gay friend and his partner. Everyone was in fancy dress representing a country...she was lucky as she got Great Britain and as it was Jubilee/Olympics had a Union Jack minidress...and Eurovision was beamed onto a sheet that acted as an outdoor screen.

I think Terry Wogan "did" for Eurovision and it is now a running joke in the UK ...although I do not see why you would have it on a public service broadcaster.

Who is "we" in this post, please, and what do you mean by "we took on three entries for this last year"? Are you saying that you're involved in some of the individual entries to the competition? Are you also saying that you're involved in the organisation of the competition and a commercial director of Eurovision Group? Or have I misunderstood?

If there is cross over from someone who will profit personally to the organisation that is responsible for running Eurovision.. I find that an odd Governance set up.

Mr S has to decline 'opportunities' in order to maintain an impartial role. They have non remunerated Trustees who may be partisan however they cannot have strategic or operational roles.

One was "posh people" as drinking was done out of glasses

As opposed to plastic wine glasses / plastic cups / the bottle?

I don't think it is a posh alert to drink wine out of a glass.

As opposed to plastic glass or a can.

You don't think it's posh because that's what you do..... but it's rare for people who have a party to [a] have enough glasses be confident it won't all be ending in a punch up in an hour.

As I've said before - I've not been able to afford to mix with people above the scum level, hence one of the reasons I've never bothered trying to go out and "make friends" as the only ones I could afford to meet/mix with are scum :)

Depends how 'adventurous' you are with best before dates though... I think I'm a bit extreme.

You've not met my darling Mama. You'd be a beginner in the adventurous with BB dates. "Bacon 3 months out of date? It's fine, it's cured and in a packet anyway."

Does everybody here have friends that have parties? I've never been part of any "party having" social mixes, unless you count sitting in a damp bedsit with dole-scum while they smoke cannabis and drink Stella a party..... which I don't, so withdrew from the social groups I could afford to sit with.

Do you not have mates who have birthday drinks, or stuff like that?

I kinda thought we MIT have a big, big party next year. With the delay on the house and the impact that's had everywhere else it is never going to happen now.
