I used to have lashings of vinegar on chips, the last few were swimming in it.
Bought a new jar of vinegar today as my little bottle needs topping up and I'd hate to run out because you always need it when you've bought chips and I bring chips home about twice a year.
Salt, vinegar, no sauce.
I'm with you on them not putting on enough in the shop, however.

I like a nice smooth variety though, some have too much of a vinegary tang, if that makes sense. If I wasn't allergic to potatoes it would taste lovely on chips.
We have a variety of vinegars for food use, red & white wine, balsamic & malt. there may be some cider vinegar, not sure without looking. Then a white vinegar spray for household things. There is a large plastic can of cider vinegar up in the stables.
As a child I only knew that malt vinegar existed. What happened?0 -

When I was younger white vinegar was a lot cheaper and adding gravy browning to it was common practice apparently as many older people woulldn't touch it if it wasn't brown. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Yes, we have a fair few. We have a mulberry vinegar that I like and all the weird vinegars are lovely on chips.
Dh likes honegar (honey cider vinegar I think) which sounds vaguely Hebrew. I use apple cider vinegar a lot.
We use balsamic, but honestly, I think it's overused. I find the very expensive sweet ones 'ok' but wouldn't buy them for home use. Balsamic is great with strawberries though, and fantastic on cheese on toast (seriously, I love vinegar) and pretty nice on raw tomato0 -

Actually, thinking about it I do have a very small (10ml?) bottle of balsamic vinegar. A few years ago, Sainsburys did a 'try this' month, so I got a couple of bottles of balsamic for salads etc at work.
Like the sound of it on cheese on toast (definitely like the sound of cheese on toast! haven't had that for ages). I think in the Hairy Bikers 'diet' book, they suggest balsamic on tomotoes as a subsitute for brown sauce in their cheats cooked breakfast.0 -

Edam (I know, un posh alert) works really well for cheese on toast with balsamic.0
