Everyone keeps talking about the slow economy. Dh sees it in his work, as do others. My vets have told me not to rush in to buying and keep telling me its a buyers market for neddies ATM and not to feel pushed. But every time I see something I would consider bidding on it bloody sells before I can arrange a vetting or a visit. Grrrrrrr.

I am thinking of advertising for a horse on loan for a year.

    I'm here for that!
    :)

Hmm - I always think in terms of upbringing and attitude to spending and spare cash I have more in common with you than many other NP - sorry.

Do you not know anyone at the Met Police well enough to get a loan horsie?
    I think....

Computer dying and now dead, hence no input for the last week. You don`t realise how much you use the Internet until you don`t have it. Hopefully back up and running with a new one shortly.

The only diversity I can offer is hailing from Yorkshire, which is hardly a foreign country, (feel free to disagree if you have never travelled north of Watford Gap:p.)

Positive thoughts for LJ and the Michaels`s

Rofl, no. Nor do I live in that corner of the Cotswolds :rotfl:

Special girls brother was a police horse.

See...laid out in the snow to die resulting in being inside and alive I consider doing well. Really well if you had no frostbite :)

From all accounts, dying of cold is not too bad a way to go. That's looking on the bright side - possibly!! :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

It's not until you've experienced, first-hand, how frail and feeble-minded the elderly can get that you realise how horrible being old can be.

When they can't think straight, start struggling with words and doing daft things. I won't say what happened here, but during my last recent visit my parent did an exceedingly bizarre and completely unpredictable thing that slammed it home....

24/7 care for the elderly isn't like looking after somebody who is just a bit doddery but able to think straight, make decisions and not do daft stuff.

Once the brain's gone, it's not only 24/7 looking after them, but a second 24/7 thinking about them and another 24/7 to manage the basic physical needs of food, clothing, cleaning, entertainment/stimulation, medical appointments and medications etc. They are as safe to be left alone as a 3-6 year old alone in a house.... anything can happen.

Last year before Mrbugslet was admitted to hospital and then 4 months later to full time care, PN`s description of what it is like to look after someone with cognitive and additional health problems is spot on. Very much like a young child, except that they think that they can do all the things they could. Trying to explain to Mr bugs that he couldn't get a bus to a local town after he spent years trucking out to Iran and Iraq, was not going to wash with him.

Stress test - 35! I think last year would have been a lot higher. When I started working for myself, I used to do over a 100 hours a week for a period of about 2 years, but don`t recollect feeling stressed. I was enjoying myself lot though back then (early90s),and think that mitigates long hours.

Ow! Earache is agonising. Get it seen by a doctor immediately. Hope they can sort you out quickly.

I was amazed at how painful it was! I don't recall it hurting that much when I was a child.:(

It is distinctly possible that I am a complete wuss. I know I have a very low pain thresh-hold, but I really struggled to sleep last night. At the insistence of others, I took paracetamol (never done it before, I don't do pharmaceuticals if I can help it) just to allow me to get to sleep.

I suspect I am feeling run down for reasons better discussed at t'other place. I'll try & explain there sooner rather than later...

It's getting to the time of year where those school meals just need something really light at home.....salads, crudit!s and humous or my summer favourite...gazpacho. I make this in jugs and pour out till finished for many mels in a row. :o. Dd would love chopping cucumber to add to it:D. Also ....jelly with fruit in it. Feels like you have made an effort, :o. I love sugar free jelly. I make plain ones. Layered ones, fluffy ones occasionally, fruited ones, even the occasional jello salad...healthy not, and not to most British Taste either!

    You talkin to me?;)

In general I find only associating with 'people like us' closes one's mind off from alternative ways of doing things and thinking about things and that mroe information is never a bad thing. Insularity and group think I feel leads to a lot of the problems of this country be it institutionalised racism, institutional bias or even the complacency leading up to the banking crisis.

In this thread everyone brings interesting things to talk about so the more and the more diverse the better (within reason, I have tried to keep up with the Mr T glitching thread at times but it becomes a full time job in itself and is then a chore rather than a pleasure. SC if you are over there make sure they know that double nectar can be doen with multiple cards on one account and for each category up to £50 rather than £50 total)

I like the points raised in the first para. However I don't personally think that posters here are a disinct group or have a distinct identity. Indeed, I see you all very much as individuals ( & quite distinct individuals to myself).

Despite us having commonalities, I think there are great differences between us too. I've learned lots. Davesnave & his huge scale gardening projects (as well as being a genuinely funny fella!) for example.

I do personally feel quite different from many of you. I appreciate part of that may be as a result from my enforced break. However I can also see your point, because a part of me sometimes feels s little more of an outsider than others in a way. But that could be more about me & my perceptions than you lot...

I do try to avoid formulating opinions on other posters physical identity here, as I am so often way off kilter with them. I got your ethnicity completely wrong for a start!:rotfl:
