So we had the valuations from the estate agents - it took me most of the weekend and yesterday to get the house looking 'ok' for them to have a look round. Tidying and moving a king size bed on my own almost killed me and I'm feeling it today.
I felt really guilty for not doing much with little one especially when she was so good about keeping herself occupied. So last night she got a kinder egg for her trouble.
The house looks great when it's (relatively) tidy and I've identified a few hot spots of clutter (my bedroom mostly) so I can crack on and finish decluttering them before we start to have viewings.
Although I admit I did cheat a little - hid a few bits under my duvet. Thought I was being so clever until the cat decided to walk across it while the estate agent was in the room - cue lots of cracking type noises. Bloomin' cat."Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0 -

Bloomin' cat.You can usually rely on a cat to do just what you don't want them to do! Don't worry Catriona_P, I'm sure the estate agent's seen much worse.

A bad mark for me - I can't find the book I am using to list (amongst many other lists/challenges) the things that are leaving the house:eek:. I know it's on the bed, on the half I'm not sleeping on.:rotfl:My mission in life is not only to survive, but to thrive and to do so with some Passion, some Compassion, some Humour and some Style.NST SEP No 1 No Debt No mortgage0

Gone through a load of paperwork for an old job and for my Dad's probate.
The job's gone and the probate is sorted. I don't need 'proof' any of it happened.
The recycling bin is half filled with shredded paper!
I've gone through my stationery and culled a load of graph, photo, lined and squared paper, as well as fancy boxes (for presents I didn't send), folders, dividers, hanging files for a filing cabinet and ring binders.
I'm getting rid of a plastic basket that swings on its handle so badly it drops most of what it's carrying
A bag for life so big, it scrapes along the ground
and coat hangers.
I've got rid of so many clothes that I don't need as many coat hangers.
There are a couple of charity shops that will have all this. Even if they can't sell it, they make use of it. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I got rid of a load of hangers yesterday too.
And hooray for a charity bag which turned up just when I needed one - I was able to get some scarves and gloves and a few books out of the house.0 -
- Donated an entire series of VHS boxsets to a charity bin (it still says it accepts them and I'm taking them at their word to get them out of my house). Still got another series (or, at least part of two series) to go. They can have those if I can gather my energy to take them down the road.
- Put one dress, two pairs of shoes and an almost new coat to the charity bin.
- Put out the recycling in time - for the first time in ages. That's another large bag gone.
- Two large bags in the rubbish, including things that have been sitting there to go for ages.
- The last few days I've 'not been allowed' to leave the house without a supermarket-type bag to put into the rubbish/recycling bins on the street. I must look a right so-and-so doing this.
- Managed to unblock a sink that had standing water in it for a few days, even with a dose of soda crystals and boiling water. I was getting worried, but the wonders of an unbent wire coathanger and another 24 hours. Hey presto!
Oh well - it didn't get that way overnight and it won't clear overnight. Its a start.0 -
So...the house goes on the market next week. This whole weekend is free so I can blitz and tidy from top to bottom. Can it be done? Watch this space!"Why, this is hell, nor am I out of it."0

I've been working my way through the bedroom shelf, segment by segment. If it only didn't involve that much cleaning, whatever I choose to do in this house
- sorting stuff out would be much more joy, lol. But better do it properly and it will be nice for a while. DD2 is home today as she's getting a bad cold. I might help her with sorting the top of her wardrobe and maybe paint the ceiling....

Chaps in today putting doors in between my kitchen & utility. They've got to cut out brickwork so major mess. Have already borrowed DS1's steam mop to try once I've cleared away the dust & grit. I wanted to try one on my granite tiles before I bought one. Why ever did I think it was a good idea to have black tiles on the bathroom floor? They need constant cleaning (which they don't get!) to look good.
Decided to get rid of my fiction book stack as I've got a Kindle. Never thought I'd be hooked but its so much more convenient. Still keeping the reference books though.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
