Eww - gakk! just poured a cuppa and the milk has curdled. Ick. Will drink the tea black, it's no biggie, did so for 3 years when living in a bedsit with no fridge.
Re soil, the answer is - it depends. My allotment is very light soil which can be substantially dry 2-3 inches below the surface even if we have had heavy rain. It dries very quickly. Some soils would be more clay-y and retain the water (it hasn't rained here since the wee hours of the night) and not be suitable. Horses for courses.
I'd be quite happy pootling around at home, got lots of books and the interwebs and a few chores and bits of crafts and sewing, but I like to peck away at the allotment, circa 2 hours per weekend, just wintertime maintenance and a bit of earth moving.
There's a lot of crossover between gardening and housework/ decluttering and little-and-often it the way to do both without getting knackered or cross with it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Second bowlful of pots washed dried and put away; next bowlful soaking. Eleven cola cans rinsed and recycled - ditto four plastic bottles.
Think I'll wash the pots that are soaking then have a lunch-break. I'm sitting with my mum all day tomorrow to give dad a chance to get out for the day - and I don't want to be over-tired and cranky with her - she can wind me up on the best of days!

Oh beggar it, the dishes are washed and put away, the counters wiped and still the weather is indecisive. I shall just go for it. Tomorrow might well be more of the same, it might be nice, it might be pertiddling down.

Overwhelmed
Have spent the last 2 HOURS pottering and not really got one thing done properly - I'm in that stage of moving things from one sh*t heap to another because to sort one out properly just seems impossible. So I thought I would come on here and moan for 5 minutes then look at it with fresh eyes.
I always thought if I had enough storage then that would sort me out - all it means now is that there are extra places to shove stuff and more drawers/cupboards/boxes to 'properly' sort out.

Hi Nix - would it help if you just dealt with one item at a time rather than one 'pile' at a time. Even if it's one piece of paper dealt with at a time eventually the pile disappears. I find that if I throw/put away/shred/otherwise deal with one item I'll go on to the next and then the next as getting started is a hurdle. Oh and if I get 'stuck' on an item, I put it back down and move on to the next one to keep the flow going.
Not sure if that helps but I hope so - it's part of the 'how do you eat an elephant' method. Read Greyqueen's posts - she is a veritable fount of all knowledge and most encouraging.
I'm now going to dry my pots and reload the WM.

I've made a bit of a mistake....
My neighbour (who is an ACE deep cleaner), has gone to my Mother's for a 2 day deep clean. I lent her ALL my cleaning stuff in case it was useful. After all, it's only a couple of days, I'm not a particularly meticulous cleaner etc., etc.
Well I forgot all about the amount of mud in the garden at the mo and what the feet of 3 dogs could do to a black sofa...... I'm too stingy to buy more cloths for the sake of 2 days and I rag boxed my spares last week. Oh and the in laws are coming tomorrow.

I am not sure if it's classed as hoarding.
But I did a stock take of my toiletries
I have two plastic storage boxes and buy things and just shove them in.
Well I have 33 razors as well as a lady shave (yes I know), 10 body puffs and too much other to mention. So I need to stop buying, Have to anyway as just about to go in to my third week with no work from the agency. So I have plenty of shower gel, shampoo, conditioner etc etc for a while.
And better not get started on face creams LOL!!!
I have written it all down what I have and what I need. So will mark things off the list as they are used up.
Need to look in my food cupboard and see what is lurking in there that I can use up or give away.

Calley, have you seen this thread ?
The No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries girls are so friendly, it was the first thread I posted to on MSE. I have cut right down on my stash and although not quite at the stage of minimalism I aspire to, I am very near it.

You mentioned 10 body puffs Calley.
I read somewhere that you should change your body puff every couple of weeks, but I cannot see why this should be necessary if you use a bit of bleach or something similar to zap any germs. I can see that the netting would be a bit of a bug trap, but cannot see why they need to be thrown out if they are properly cleaned.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Half a bag of 'must keep' disks later I've cleared a desk drawer and transferred 100s of old photos onto the laptop - and had some emotional cleaning in the process. So sitting here having a moan worked!Comps £2016 in 2016 - 1 wins = £530 26.2%
