I don't even know who those guys are..

6 ebeast items to post on Monday, I've done nothing for the last couple of weeks I've felt horrendous.

Today I have binned a corner sofa, 3 binbags of rubbish and banished a bag of clothes to DD1 for the grandbeast.. just a 2 seater sofa to banish now..

Grey Queen....... Camping mat can be tied up with the waistband from an old pair of tights or even "posted" into a leg of the old tights. Very cheap and effective, especially when backpacking.
:j That is fabulous, why didn't I think of that? I'm sure I have something suitable in the small cache of old tights which are kept for strange purposes.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell me that.

  • Growing up my Mum's washing/ironing/mending piles used to be called 'The Vortex' as when things went in, they never came out. I grew out of a lot of stuff before it could be mended or altered. The best one was as a child, Mum cut and pinned me a blouse. By the time she got around to sewing it, I'd grown out of it!

I am super jealous of people seeing the minimalists in person, I've enjoyed reading their blog.

And in a sense, I'm doing other people's mending, and profiting from it!

Well-pleased; I've finally got down to sewing-machine level. You have no idea how much things will speed up now... there are several large projects awaiting me being able to use the big machine; for example one giant, fully-lined curtain awaiting being turned into a pair of curtains for DS3's room, and three slightly-damaged plaid blankets about to be turned into ruanas. One will save me money and keep the warmth in, and the other will make me money, turning £6-worth of blanket into £60 of clothing in about 20 minutes flat. Both things have been taking up a lot of room; they were waiting to be done when DS2 & TDiL announced they were moving back in and have been "stuck" waiting for me to be able to access the machine ever since. I don't know whether I'll be able to do them today, too many outside jobs needing doing, but at least I can tackle them now whenever I have a spare moment. Meanwhile there's still a whole lot of junk to shift/dispose of in there...

Just been catching up - my hasn't this thread moved quickly over the last few days. I have a mending pile that I usually blitz when the effort of heaving out my sewing machine is less than the niggle of the mending to be done! Did have a laugh about the blouse Skeeter My Mum was a a good needlewoman & made me a lovely lemon taffeta dress with a frilled yoke. It was so pretty & it had to be kept for best - yup - grown out of and never worn AND she didn't make me another one to compensate :(
Managed to offload a bag of seashells that were going to be used for a project (about 3 years ago) via freecycle. DS1 asked me yesterday if I would give him a hand to sort out his clothes & linens :eek: I wouldn't say he's really a hoarder as such but he's quite thrifty & doesn't throw things away that still can have a useful life. I think it may be 'cos he's recently split from a girlfriend & it could be a bit of 'life clearout' IYKWIM.
Gingernutty Going to check out 'TheMinimalists' not heard of them - you're day sounded really good. Are you near Kings Heath 'cos my darling godmother lives there. Saw her a few weeks ago but 'cos of the distance i don't get to see her as often as I would like - 82 & limited sight & SO independant Bless her
Off to make some meat pies for today & freezer from a piece of slow cooked brisket I shall cost out how much a meal it will be when I've finished :) Have a good day all

Oh, I do have a mending pile as I need to use up my old clothes in the garden and when clearing animal muck, lol. It needs serious attention as I just put a few cardigans on the pile! I usually mend when watching something on TV. But there is a black bag behind the sofa with teens' clothes which would not fit me so I'll sort what goes onto the ebeast or to Cash4Clothes.

No, Wolves. I can get anywhere the buses run to.

Kings Heath has a 24hr bus service.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Does anyone else get that feeling (post a big clear out) of why on Earth didn't I deal with that ages ago?

In a word, catshark88 - yes. Doesn't make me feel any better, but yes, I end up kicking myself at all the time & space that's been wasted!

I've sorted out a big bag of yarn for freecycling today; it's not been claimed yet but I do expect it to go quite quickly but I can take it down to my Mum's knitting group if no-one here wants it. And I'm taking a big bag of surplus sheets & blanket pieces (I've used the coloured ends in a rug) to a volunteer for one of our local animal charities tomorrow; apparently young apes love soft flannelette sheets particularly. (They're stained, GQ, before you wonder if I've gone doolally, giving away flannelette sheets; I was going to use them inside quilts.) And I have managed to turn one of the damaged blankets into a poncho; it turned out to be square so that was the best use for it. So I have managed to achieve a few things indoors. Onwards & upwards!
