:) Awww, roundtuit, lovely to have you posting again. I was contemplating asking where you were but thought that might be a bit stalkerish/ harrassing, if you were just lurking quietly for good reasons. Sounds like you've had an awful lot to deal with and may your teatray of sanity continue to be stable.

I'm feeling pleased about having just framed the great-grandparents. Not for anything nefarious, I hasten to add, mainly because they led blameless lives and have been dead for many decades, anyway.

Short version is, ended up with a photo which Mum decided she wanted to have in a frame rather than an album. She mentioned looking for a suitable frame at the charity shop, and I just glanced down from where we stood and saw an unused pic frame lying on a box under the sideboard.

Out it came, dusted, the glass washed, matted the photo with some cream paper and then framed it. Lookin' good. I'm at the parental homestread until this evening and knew if I didn't get on with it, the framing would still be undone on my next visit several weeks' hence and that the photo would be vulnerable to damage in the interim.

If one is a procrastinator, of a family of procrastinators, one just has to recognise that one has a problem and try to mend one's ways, doesn't one?

Anyroad, that's the theory, just got to get the practise right. I now have to go and clean my new bucket before it gets beyond the pail.

    :oSorry.

nah definitely not an idiot, just a typo that made me grin as I have a weird sense of humour. I'm the idiot if I have embarrassed you!
  • Thanks for the NHS link noelphobic. Some recognition there for me. One of my parents definitely had hoarding tendencies and I can relate to the reasons people hoard and tick some other boxes too like anxiety and depression. I generally find it helpful to know reasons behind things. The classic "it might come in handy" "I could repair it", definitely ring a church full of bells for me.

I have rehomed many unneeded items this year and do you know what? I have not missed a single thing, not even thought about them other than appreciated less clutter. I am going to bear that in mind when I struggle to lets things go.

Small job today, recycle all those pieces of wrapping paper that are too small to be of any use.

Oh you haven't embarrassed me. I know my typing is bad and the predictive text on this thing always trips me up. I should proof read before posting. I made an awful mistake once on the debt free before Xmas 2014 thread. I was replying to Spag Bol except the predictive text changed it to s l a g oil. Now THAT was embarrassing. Luckily she saw the funny side bless her.

    :) Morning all.

Got back to the homestead late yesterday evening and decided not to fall into my usual pattern when shopping/ returning from a trip. Which is to unpack the perishables for the fridge and leave everthing else in its bags on the floor, sometimes for days or even weeks.

Sooo, unpacked it all and put it away and put the bags away. Some stuff was to be the core of the next donation bag, so began to assemble that right away and will add some more to it later.

Until it's gone it ain't decluttering, it's shuffling. And I'm a dab hand at that.

Have a good day, everybody. GQ xx

    I have a clutter problem.

I have 2 young kids that I adore and between them, they produce a lot of paper; things from school, pictures, cards etc. I'm struggling to even throw away the envelopes that they have written "mummy" on from various cards. I am beginning to have storage problems. I thought it was harmless, but then I saw one of those US hoarding programmes and the lady had started in just the same way.

How do I handle an over abundance of things I'm overly sentimental about??

    Help!
:) Hi there, I was wondering if you'd like to see this man's idea; a whiteboard and markers for his child to draw on, and saving the results photographically?

Obviously, it wouldn't help with artwork produced at nursery and school but it could be handy for in-house work. HTH.

  • GQ, that is brilliant! "Until it's gone it ain't decluttering, it's shuffling." I've been shuffling for so long!

    Hi :)
Just popping in to say I'm still de-hoarding! It goes in fits and starts depending on work and health but have recently done a lot.
Cellar- almost empty and partly through redecorating:j
Kitchen- clean, tidy and fully decluttered and decorated:j:j
Stairs- clean and empty!!!! ready to be decorated when funds permit:)

Bedroom- Clean and almost decluttered, few boxes and bags to go through and some more "emotional" stuff which may take more time. All drawers and wardrobes tidy and accessible though and part way through redecorating:j
Attic- don't ask lol, hubbys domain but a lot seems to have been leaving without any help from me (I rarely go up there)

Yard- tidy clear and useable and exterior has been redecorated:j
All rooms able to be used as intended and no longer has just a dusty landfill look indoors;)

It has taken a very long time so far but with the brilliant suggestions and support on this thread we are getting there. Thank you all so much!!! Anyone just beginning, this is proof that the hard work and effort does pay off and if I can do it, you can too. Keep the faith and let go off everything else lol.

    love and peace xx
    ahimsa :)
