I never considered myself as a hoarder. In fact I would swear blind I am totally the opposite but I have recently decanted a cupboard of antique linen which I had collected over many years when I had an old house and have donated it to the CS who deals in vintage items. I am pretty sure there is a website you can locate lost soldiers from the 2x WW's and maybe the chap you seek did survive or has surviving relatives you could pass such a treasure to. Some local museums might be interested or memorial societies for the armed forces.. definitely a few places to try.. it may only be a small thing but it might be very precious to someone out there!

Pigpen - thats exactly how my Dad felt. He always said his medals were just for being there at the time & they sculled around in the bottom of the kitchen drawer with all the other detrius for as long as I can remember.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

I have been lurking around for some time, and have just finished reading the whole thread to date !
Well, what can I say, you are all inspirational. I have a sewing stash, card making stash, a stash in the hall that I have removed from my mothers as she is now in a home, a stash of caned chairs waiting to be recaned, and this afternoon I realise I have a stash of homemade jam & chutney, some of it 5 years old or more, which I hadn't recognised as a stash at all.!!!
Where to start? I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as I start somewhere and do a bit at a time.
I think my problem is inertia - occasionally I can do stuff but more often than not (with a bit of depression) it is difficult to find the 'umph' to move to anything other than the necessary chores to keep the home going.
Well now I have crept out from the woodwork I will have to make a start. I did give 3 paperbacks away today so that probably counts as a first step?
I hope you let me join in - I do need the encouragement.

Thanks Pigpen but I have already searched the WW1 army records and can't track him down. It is only a campaign medal but I will keep looking for him when time permits. His surname was Denney so if this rings a bell with anyone......0

dollyblue48 I can relate to this so much!! Sometimes I find it hard to even get the necessary chores done! I have a battle with depression too -I work part-time and some days I am so tired from work that I have to have a wee sleep before I can face tackling anything. Somedays I have to just remind myself that even removing 1 thing is positive, and better than before !!!I find this thread so supportive. And to read a post by Pigpen,Greyqueen or Whitewing etc that rings bells on being aware of my thought processes and challenging ingrained habits is just BRILLIANT. Power to your elbow Dolly...every little thing helps!0 -

I think a lot of the trouble with Stuff is that is disappears in plain sight and you just don't see it any more, until something like an innocent snapshot taken indoors of a family member or pet seems to have been posed in a junk shop or midden, what they heck is all that Stuff in heaps and mounds in the background?!
Or you suffer an injury falling over it or have to pack it for a move or move it from a relative's home into your own at short notice........arrgghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we all struggle with the ooomph issue, that feeling that for days/ weeks/ months at a time, your get-up-and-go has somehow got-up-and-went, that your Mojo is missing and your are dragging yourself around like a dying slug........... been there, done that, have the tee-shirt.
This past 2 weeks, I have been beyond-tired. As in sleeping 10-12 hours a night and still feeling like I've had no rest. I reckon it's the menopause but it's getting me down a bit. Still, today it's not actually raining, I am now on annual leave until the 1st September, and I shall have a leisurely start before going to my lottie and hustling about in the dirt.
I'm sure the fresh air will do me the world of good. Haven't been there for about 10 days so hope no one has rustled me onions away. No one ever wants to steal weeds, have you noticed?:rotfl:
And yes, three paperbacks definately counts as a good start.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Hooray, I actually sold something;only £20 but I am happy.
Got rid of a box set of books to my sister.
Also 2 big (sized) birthday presents, and cards have gone out of the house recently.
1 bag of tangled jewellery in (relative hanging a clear out). I will have a good look at it before giving the bits I don't want to DD.
2 bags of stuff to my brother with instructions to pass it on if he doesn't want it.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

I am looking forward to some better days to come, and this morning I do feel more positive.
I don't think I can tackle mum's stuff yet - I just pick something up, look at it and put it down again - even thouigh it is the most important to clear as it is in the way, in plain sight, I have to choose something easier to make a start on !
Please can you tell me how to thank people? I have looked all over and cannot see any button for this. I am a bit of a luddite when it comes to technology but am making some progress as I have managed to join in on the thread!
Anyway, it is a new day and I will see what I can do, and briefly report
back later.
