GQ a cricket is a little more exotic than loads of spiders and at least it's entertaining with its little song.

A trip to the tip this morning then I need to start clearing out the back room. We have been using the small front room as a sitting room for a while as it was more economical to heat when I lived alone. Anyway it's too small really for all of us and we have been saying for a while a move into the larger room would probably be better but DH was worried about moving the sky box. Anyway a couple of weeks ago the sky box died (hurray, big party) so DH cancelled the TV package as he tended to watch terrestrial channels mostly and replaced it with a box where you pay once and that's it. A selection of rubbish like on sky but less.

Anyway I'm waffling, sorry. Last night DH came in and said how good the place was starting to look and he was impressed with how hard I had been working. He has Aspergers and to notice anything which isn't to do with something he is doing is a miracle. He then said about moving the rooms around on his week off. I said that it would have to wait as we needed new carpet. The carpet is from the 60's and is the most, hideous, revolting, disgusting, migraine inducing swirly pattern ever to grace the earth and I told him I can sit looking at it every night so he said he would pay for some more. he's not mean but CAREFUL with money and being colourblind didn't see a problem with the carpet.

So off I went and priced some. Today I need to go and get the paint to do the walls so we can get the carpet laid.

    I'm very excited.....sorry.

The hard work is paying off.:j:j:j

Oh you lot have cheered me up this morning - GQ I was told years ago that a cricket in your house is very lucky (lucky for the cricket maybe;))
I've had two pop in this year but did manage to get them outside so no singing :)

Parsniphead, you may find you could actually sell the old carpet - you'd be astonished what people are looking for! But not necessarily to use themselves; a number of the less-liveable-with vintage items I sell go to production departments & re-appear in films or on TV.

Would love to change some of our rooms around but either have to work very, very slowly or get it all done inside one working day; OH's autistic tendencies mean that, although he might like the results of change, he cannot handle the process & will totally go off at the deep end during the inevitable chaos. The idea of getting worse in order to get better just does not compute, hence ending up with so much mess & kipple stuffed away in every conceivable corner!

Didn't manage to sort out a box from the garage yesterday, life just busied up & I didn't get a chance. Will try again today.

Thanks thrift wizard. I will look into that. It's not in bad condition just horrible. I wouldn't have thought of selling it.

I will be doing most of the work while he is at work as he will get very stressed. Also he is useless at DIY ( it's a good job he won't see this;)). There will be a few bits where I will get him involved but the day I change it round will be when he is out just for my own state of mind.

Absolute understanding from me! They sound quite alike.

My DH is laughing at me because I put the washing on the line this morning, even though I knew it would rain, in the vain hope that it would dry out this afternoon.

I made the bed this morning as soon as I got out of it, and still begrudged it! But I love the room so much more when it's done. I am laughing at myself now that a household task is not automatic.

ETA: cost of two double duvets to be collected, clean, dried and delivered back (within the same town) = £28.

:D In that case 2014 should be an excellent year for me.

On Jan 1st I captured a large locust in the flat, then had a few crickets which were captured before getting into song and dance routines. I emailed the housing officer as one of my colleagues who keeps exotic pets told me these things are sold as live food for people who keep lizards etc as pets, and the locust seems to have been a mediterranean species. The H.O. acknowledged that they did know someone living nearby who might be responsible (I haven't a clue which address) and would have an informal word about the escapees.

Today I have decluttered a peanut butter jar, but not before I had a swither about keeping it, as is traditional. I really have to force myself to wash them up and get them out into the glass recycling bin in the communal area before procrastination and might-be-useful-itis sets in.

Managed to sling an iron about before going to work, plus have decluttered my bike up to the shop for a repair and should get it back tomorrow afternoon after work. It's all good.

Keep on at it, my lovelies. GQ xx

For some bizarre reason (probably due to my bizarre brain*) I had an image of GQ hurling an iron like an alternative to shot-put/discus/similar sporting thing you throw and thinking she won't have room in her bijou residence!

    * further thought... not so bizarre brain.... archery is the link of course!

Haven't done much dehoarding lately due to me 'elf but did drop off a small carrier that I found lurking in the car boot to a local chazza yesterday and sorted a further small bag for the school spare clothes drawers. DH also commented at long last on my efforts.

Off on holiday adventuring soon but on return keen to get straight back in the swing of things. I have identified some items I would like to get shot of but they haven't yet reached a box/bag for further transportation but I have my beady eye on them. One of them is a vase (have too many for a girl with hayfever :o) but its too grimy to hand in in its current state.

I have recently got rid of an enormous amount of old receipts and now completely up to date with them (I like to keep them to check off against statements and then keep a select few in case of malfunction etc.) Unfortunately I was SO up to date that I binned one of DH's receipts that he may have needed to collect something on order... of course he wasn't asked for it and I am glad I didn't spend x time trawling through the recycling bags :D.

enjoying reading about everyone's efforts.... keep on going guys n dolls

Managed to tackle some of the rubbish/paperwork on my desk.
SQ I do the same ;) WHY was I keeping all the receipts from our holiday? I'd already checked them so they went & also copies of internet receipts so the recycly bag is quite full. Need to post some things on Prelurved or Fleabay this weekend & maybe get some dosh and 'stuff' out of the house. Did buy a book from the CS but read it and its going back today!
