This is a brilliant post (how long have you been living in my house?) I am intrigued by the fact that you shred the bit of the card with the writing on. Why is this?
:) Lol, I suspect lots of us could sneak into each others' homes and feel pretty at-home ourselves.

I've just made a pot of tea which you're welcome to share but am unaccountably biscuit-less, so any contributions of that nature gratefully received.

The reason I shred the bit which the card-giver wrote on is that I'm a tin-hat paranoic and nothing, and I do mean nothing, that I've or someone else has written on escapes unshredded. Plus some of my friends are cheeky beggars and you should see the stuff they write. :p

One time I was taking some stuff from my parents' place up to their local dump and was about to heft something over the top when I looked down first and found one of the workers down there with someone's discarded photo envelope, had their negs out and was interestedly holding them up to the light to have a nosey!

    Anything interesting? I asked wryly.

Nah, was his disappointed and utterly unembarrassed reply.

Lots of people I know seem to struggle with The Post. Including people who work in offices and are no strangers to pushing paper. There's a powerful resistance to dealing with the printed word, isn't there? And I love the idea of sending guffle back to companies foolish enough to give us prepaid envelopes.

I may just have done this in the past myself but will have to remember to do this again when the opportunity arises. After all, if they waste my time why shouldn't I waste theirs?:rotfl:

I have been reading along, honest.

Had an overwhelming week here too, but of the life stuff rather than clutter-stuff but dealing with the first has left the latter sliding (literally for the recycling LOL). so back on the wagon today; have been to the tip during the running around this evening, to the supermarket and all is put away and picked up recycling bags after 4 frustrating previous attempts where stockists have ceased, well, stocking them. So tomorrow the heaving pile of packaging etc can be bagged and put in the external bin store.

my door keys are always put straight in the door - no other system works for me at all, and post is running in a fairly streamlined fashion now that the shredder is plugged in next to the place I routinely open my post (I've been shredding the lot whilst out of recycling bags, as shredded paper goes in a different waste system to non-shredded paper - no idea why, but hey ho).

I'm at least 3 loads behind on putting washing away, so that is tomorrow's main task, with some more clothes to cs bag as I go through. then a few tasks to finish which will free up space, but in need of a gentle weekend with not much pressure on the "to do" list other than general housework etc.

plus if there is any break in the cloud at all, I need to spend some time filling my vision with blue sky and welcoming the buds and logging the ladybirds with the ladybird survey.

:) Well, have just watched The Hoarder Next Door from last night on 4OD. Still can't get over all those ornaments, giving me the heebie-jeebies. And the bloke with the huge mountain of blue placcy bag encased newspapers.......!

As is invariably the effect of watching a hoarding programme on the interweb, I got twitchy and started to paw through something. As I'd used up a Bic biro this week, I went to the pencil case where I keep the pen stash and brought a few forward and tested the other pens to make sure that they are all viable. Binned a couple. I also brought any pen which is even slightly bulky into service for my work (so I'd gain more space in the pencil case than using up a skinnier pen), and chose those pens with see-thru barrels, so I could choose the ones lowest on ink so to use them up first. Sad or what? :rotfl:

This week I will be ragging a pair of PJ bottoms and a pair of religious socks, plus turfing out something else bought in the bedlinen line which isn't really working out for me. Once that's laundered and ironed (it has been in use) it'll be in the c.s. bag.

I started reading one of the books brought back yesterday and that will soon be done. And that's a title which has been on my to-read list for some time, too.

Have also finished up a bottle of bleach, so that's rinsed and ready for the off, I feel a small but sincere satisfaction about posting things into the communal recycling bins.

Now, I need to straighten up the kitchen and wash the dishes so I don't start the weekend in a muddle. Keep the faith, lovely peeps. GQ xx

    .

I try to never leave my keys on the inside of my door. If my son comes home he can't open the door. On one memorable occasion we managed to break the lock when he opened the door from the outside with his key when my key was one the inside. Whilst trying to fix it the outside handle got knocked off and we were locked in for a while. Luckily my house insurance covered a locksmith to sort it out.

Which reminds me, on the subject of post, my house insurance is due for renewal soon so i am getting letters most days from companies offering me quotes. I am going to find a folder to put them in until my insurance is sorted and then they can all go in the recycling.

I work from home and spend a lot of time with my laptop on my lap in my riser-recliner. Gradually clutter has built up around me, I need to have things handy but there are so many things.

My DS has come up with a solution of a large see thru storage box which now holds things like the battery recharger and rechargeable batteries (my cordless mouse goes through batteries fairly quickly so it's sensible to keep this handy) and the household paperwork file.
Sorting stuff out for the box meant I found a lot of missing bits and pieces and out went a big bag of cardboard and paper. Result!

Does anyone else 'hoard' emails? :o I don't actually print them off but I have over 50k unread emails in my hotmail account! I have unsubscribed from quite a few lists and am using 'Rolllup' for most of the rest, so at least they're not growing too much.

I have another email account that I use just for job applications as these are too important to risk missing anything!

I have more than 10K in my hotmail account, but I flag and deal with (file/or act on) the important ones and then once a year or so dump everything in my inbox. I don't see this as hoarding - it's virtual space, and the important ones are filed. I don't clear it out more often because there are times I need to find something specific that wasn't important initially. but there's a handy search facility so it's not like a pile of paper, and casues me no stress whatsoever.

    Hi ladies
Avid lurker here. I just wanted to tell someone who would appreciate it.

Today I have visited the local recycling centre 4 times. The final count is about 40 items,: books, clothes, shoes, junk and broken toys, broken appliances 3, old laptop and wires, and an old melamine sideboard.

Wow does it feel good. Some more trips tomorrow but having a rest now.

Thanks for all your posts. You help the inner hoarder in me realise that just because I like it I don't have to have it. If only I could get the rest of the family to hoard less.

An earlier post by sweetpea had me glancing around the garden yesterday while DS's dad was here mowing the lawns - this resulted in: an discarded coir doormat - which had weeds growing out of it  - being binned; two empty hanging baskets being 'donated' to DS's dad :); a piece of broken corrugated plastic, blown from next door's car-port and 'stored' in my garden for I-don't know-how-long, being placed in DS's dad's vehicle to be dropped off at the skip. (Hereafter DS's dad will be referred to as PJ as they are his initials and it's easier to type :D ) Amazing how just those few items 'disappearing' makes the garden look tidier.
Indoors has been a work of 'maintain-ance' rather than forward progress as I've felt pretty 'rubbish' this weekend - I'm feeling inclined to do nothing, but have made myself wash the pots and sort the laundry ..... and with a busy week at work ahead I'm sure I'll be glad of it.
I'm now going to hang out some of said laundry to dry - glorious drying weather here- and dry/put away said pots.

The moment for me was the 4x4 full of Really Useful Boxes. And the heap in the barn.
Each box cost £14 if they were the 35 litre ones.:eek:
