Ames - bullets? Seriously? This is really worrying! What happened?

White wing - we found several times that friends and relatives were buying our children really expensive things that they wanted themselves. Heck, we did it ourselves once or twice. It's such a shame. DS has a set of golf clubs that FIL really wanted him to use and they are cluttering up my cupboard of doom. Never mind, they might come in handy one day.

I too have been decluttering the allotment. Took advantage of the fact that the bees were asleep at dusk and had a good go at the bit in front of the hive. There are docks with tap roots that go down a couple of feet.

Also decluttered the baskets in the bathroom, with all the new stuff in the lower basket and the part-used stuff in the basket on the top, so that things get used up before another bottle gets opened. It doesn't look much better but it feels more organised. Also put all the feminine once a month stuff in a pretty wash bag instead of having a couple of boxes shouting the brand name on show. We all know what they are.

Got some washing dried outside, so may be able to take the airers down at some point, which will please DH.

also split up a loaf and am freezing it in batches of 4 slices, thanks to an MSE tip. This is just the number I need for DH's sandwiches, so hopefully I won't be throwing away stale bits of bread any more, nor will I be trying to hack the right number of slices off a whole frozen loaf.

There are some genius money savers out there!

so....that charity bag, haven't got rid of it but I have put filled it a lil more! in my, admittedly poor, defense - I've found a job which involves working away and my friend/almost bf will be moving in during the week while I'm away at work. I think when I return from this, it may be clearer to me what can go.

Many thanks for the inspiration to get small things out as I rearrange *everything* - probably couldn't have managed this a few months ago!

    Hello everybody.

Three bags of rubbish out yesterday and over 50 books for selling at car boot put safely to one side. Cleared a lot of room as they are heavy factual reference books, mostly.

Listed the more expensive stuff on Amazzzz already and they are in a pile waiting to go. Sorted out six piles of stuff that have gone either to a 'home' (cupboard etc), binned, chazzer bag or car boot bag. Result I can now see carpet!!! I am finding so much inspiration from this thread.

The plastic boxes for ready meals I make also and if it helps, I have tried buying them from many different shops. The only ones that the lids seem to permanently fit are from Sainbunnies value range. HTH.

Thank you all for being so inspirational for me. I haven't done anything productive, hobbies, art, anything for years (and it has been ten years) because my house has been so full of stuff and clutter that I have completely lacked motivation.

I really am determined for things to be different this year.

We have sorted out a bag of DD's outgrown clothes to pass on to friends. I felt a pang for each of them as though we hadn't had enough use out of them. It was proper sadness rather than fear, I think.

There was also a small pile of stained or torn that will go into the charity bin as rags.

Bedclothes are on the line. A few items of DD's clothes smell musty from the bottom of the drawers so they are in the wash too.

Its lovely to get washing on the line, isnt it? I have towels out there and am going to swop them for t shirts in a minute.

I have a list of jobs to do and the first one is my fleabay pics, found batteries in asd* for £1 a pack so stocked up with them as we use a lot. Also added 'take spent batteries to Tosco tomorrow' so thats another
job to do and a little less clutter. Well lunch is eaten so am off to do some work.

:D Whee, have I been busy or have I been busy?!

Went to work and came home. Shoved a vacuum around and then someone came to visit, 10 mins ahead of their arrival time. Caught red-handed vacuuming, oh the shame of it.:rotfl:

They left, then out on a couple of errands, one of which was to drop of the donation bag at Hoxfam. Have also taken out the recycling and have sent one hour on two sewing projects, one of which was to make a curtain out of a fabric remnant and the other a mending job.

Both of which have been much procrastinated and are now done and the curtain will be leaving the premises tomorrow as it is something I ran up for the parents' place as Mum has one sewing machine injured and the other (treadle in a cabinet) buried under piles of boxes of books. It has not been seen for quite some time but she knows where it is (theoretically in the sitting-room but might as well be on Mars for all the good it's doing).

Feeling very chuffed to have aced those two niggles. Plenty of more niggles around the place, but that's two chores out of the way.

But, in the circularity which is housework, I have just thrown crumbs all over the rug, but I'm not getting the vacuum out again today, that'll have to wait for tomorrow at least.

Onwards and outwards, my lovelies. GQ xx

  • Thank you for that link Shortbird. I enjoyed it very much. Can I just put in a plug for Living More with Less, one of my favourite books ever? I probably mention it at least twice a year on here.

Never had a Don Aslett one though. Might have to try the library.
