I'm in the process of buying a house (), and looking for ways to scrimp and save, one of which is to not get Sky or a TV licence.
I already have a good HD TV so don't want to get another; was considering Apple TV as I could get Netflix. Ideally though, I'd like to access iPlayer and 4OD too, which apparently Apple TV won't get.
Can anyone recommend a good alternative?
Thank you!

You can get BBC iPlayer and Netflix on a Wii.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Thanks for the suggestion Heinz. Does a Wii have the capacity to use a VPN?Please respond to mine and others' posts with courtesy and kindness- and I will not deliberately disrespect you. Down with the trolls!0

PS3 would get all of the above and more, and with a better quality picture (potentially) than a Wii too.0

That was a concern I had actually about the wii- but I figured you can't have it all! Amazon has some really reasonably priced ps3s too (second hand, but in working order).
Really glad to have options. Who needs live tv eh? And saving of potentially £50 a month! Please respond to mine and others' posts with courtesy and kindness- and I will not deliberately disrespect you. Down with the trolls!0 -
dont you still need a tv licence to view the catch-up services ?0

However, if you have a Freeview capable TV, then you are 'going equipped' and liable for prosecution. You may never watch live broadcasts, but there is an expectation you will. If it ever came to court, it will depend on your credibility of the denial before the judge. If the TV (or other connected device) has no tuner, then this does not arise.0

@Buzby I was reading another thread earlier this week ref TV licence, and "how do I prove I don't need a TV licence". Apparently it's up to the licensing people to prove that you do, as opposed to the individual proving that they don't.Please respond to mine and others' posts with courtesy and kindness- and I will not deliberately disrespect you.
