To be honest I would be taking my business to a bank that is up to date with the regulations, having to check with the Home Office is ridiculous when the information is clearly available for everyone to see."Character is a journey, not a destination"--Bill Clinton

Well NatWest is the only bank that offer debit cards for saving accounts
So open a current account that offers a debit card and a savings account either with the same provider (so you only have to confirm your details once) or another provider (if you want to shop around for the best rate - which I doubt if you'll be getting from NatWest at the moment).0 -

Not that I am saying that the OP does have such problems. Possibly they have other reasons for wanting this particular account.0 -
You seem to underestimate the problems that some people have with getting a bank account with a debit card.

These debit cards will be replaced by cash cards by August 2013."Character is a journey, not a destination"--Bill Clinton

I don't underestimate it. But I would have expected the same credit checks to be carried out to open a savings account with a debit card as would be done for a current account with one, so if the OP qualifies for the former with NatWest then I would have thought that it might be possible to qualify for the latter elsewhere.0 -
I think it's easier to have an account with a saving + debit. This is my first account. I will probably open another saving account with another bank later (once I got this sorted out just in case the other bank decides to email Home Office as well
).
Really? How about existing customers?
Yes all the cards are being replaced so on expiry or replacement of your card from August you'll just be sent an ATM card.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

I have to wonder why NatWest is going backwards.
I also have to take my passport in even although the same NatWest branch checked the same passport when I opened the account and I have not moved for ten years so its a lot of hassle that I don't need.0 -
Why do you think that a change of the card affects DDs?0

its in the letter Customers will only have a ATM card - you have to move your D/D's to another account.
just now I have a Visa debit card which I can use online to buy goods - from august they replace the Visa debit card with a ATM card
why I don't have a clue all I know is its a right hassle0
