Natwest Truro says they have problem making a new account for me. I took my Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) Biometric card with all my credentials. As a safe side I also took my Burmese passport. The Tier 1 visa in the passport is "expired" and has been "replaced" by my permanent residence (ILR) card.

However, they said they are having problems making the account as it is not in the rule books. They were looking for a visa in the passport and had no experience making an account with the ILR biometric card. Home office only issue ILRs as biometric cards.

Hate to say this but what you have written makes no sense at all. You might want to try writing it in a way that everyone understands what you were trying to do and what your Visa + Passport refers too.

Perhaps then we maybe able to help you.

ILR = Indefinite Leave to Remain. In the past it used to be a stamp (sticker?) in a passport. 'Visa' in this context isn't a bank card. LOL

I have edited my original post. Hopefully it's clearer.

If there is something available from UKBA, perhaps on their website, that explains how the IRL card works to replace the visa, then you could take that to the bank - they might have to make reference to head office if they've never done it before, but there ought to be a process in place.

Got a call from the Bank (after I ask them to call back), and they said they're calling the head office. As the manager puts it, it's like "banging the head against the wall."

How should you use your biometric residence permit?

Your biometric residence permit is evidence of your permission to stay in the UK, and shows the conditions of your stay. It enables you to confirm your identity and confirm your right to study and/or work here, and to access public services.

I have just popped into the bank today and they told me they are waiting for response from their head office. I told them that they can check with the Home Office, but they told me that whatever the Home Office said, they have to wait for the decision from Natwest head office.

Update: NatWest called me today telling me that they have emailed Home Office and is waiting for a response from them.

To be honest I would be taking my business to a bank that is up to date with the regulations, having to check with the Home Office is ridiculous when the information is clearly available for everyone to see.
