Ebay - changes in picture standards

Another new Ebay rule :

From autumn 2013, the following picture standards will be enforced on eBay.co.uk. The only exceptions to these new picture standards will be listings in the Vehicle Parts & Accessories and Tickets categories:
No picture, no listing

You must upload at least 1 picture to your listing.

Don't use stock pictures for used item listings

Listing stock pictures can mislead buyers as to what they’re really getting. By listing pictures of the actual item you’re selling, you can better communicate the item’s condition and manage buyer expectations. However, this doesn’t apply to refurbished items for which you can use stock pictures

Don't include borders, text, or artwork on the picture

All text and borders should be removed from listings to create a cleaner experience for buyers. Watermarks can only be used to protect copyright.

Make sure the longest side of all your pictures is at least 500 pixels

By including high-quality pictures with your listing, your item will become more visible in Best Match search results. More buyers will be attracted to your listing, helping to increase your sales conversion

Additional pictures now free

From 1 August, you’ll be able to upload up to 12 pictures to each of your listings free of charge. Find out more about free pictures.

I like the free pictures idea and I don't think the rest will particularly affect me. I do sometimes put my user name though on photos which I assume will no longer be allowed unless it is deemed a watermark.

The good thing is, I can now cancel both my Auctiva accounts, saving me £14 ish a month. However, my two shop fees will go up by £10 :(

I feel that many of us will be having a glass or two this evening and sitting quietly to try and work out how we feel about all these changes.

Looking at the Ebay community boards, there are so many unhappy sellers, if we all chipped in we could probably set up our own Ebay alternative.

Crafty Bidder is struggling to get off the ground. I think you need a multi million £ advertising budget to get started.

Do any of us think Ebid will sieze the opportunity to relaunch properly in the UK and attract buyers as well as sellers, or will it stay dead in the water?

Well, if they do I will definitely have a look at ebid. So many sellers are looking for an alternative, ebid are definitely missing a trick if they don't capitalise on this opportunity

I don't know if i prefer a competitor to ebay or not in reality if ebid took off and ebay lost half it's buyers and sellers to it surely whichever site you choose to list on your going to have less buyers to sell too. Unless buyers are going to spend the time searching both sites.

Ebid don't need the sellers , they need marketing to attract buyers.

There are lots of us sellers there with shops and listings but not selling anything from one year to the next. If they could just get a couple of buyers, any at all, this could be turned to their advantage.
