My local animal shelter is always asking for volunteers for dog walking, not sure if its up your street, but an idea.

Good luck with the job hunting.

Online courses sound good, wouldn't mind taking up a new language.
Ideally I need something where I can get out and meet people as thats the thing I miss the most, going days without actually talking to someone is pretty hard. But again, when I've looked there seems to be nothing around, i'm pretty open minded and willing to try most things, i just need to find them.

You could combine these two ideas-pick a language, and then look around for people who speak that language and meet up or something. For example on Gumtree, there's a section for "skill and language swap", or there's probably a more specialised site out there for meeting people with the intent of learning a new language and socialising. So you could find people that way. :)
  • Walking groups are something I would be really interested in and i've looked quite a few times but there doesn't seem to be any around here. I'm within walking distance of a national park so you would think there would be something but i'm at a loss.

No animal shelters near enough, I can't afford to be driving 20+ miles on a regular basis unless it was to some sort of group.

I'll have to keep looking and hope something turns up soon.

I volunteered at a local Hospice for a year, that certainly put my minor whinges and moans into perspective and still does to this day

Despite it being incredibly sad and moving at times it was also very funny and i got to know some great people albeit for short amount of time, I learnt a lot and it helped me land the job I really wanted at that time.

How about setting up your own walking group? There might be dozens of very interesting people who think the same as you - they'd like to meet people but can't find a group. Go on - do it! Especially as you live near a national park. I reckon it'll be a roaring success :)

Another vote for volunteering here, I shelve books on the childrens library three days a week, keeps me sane, gives me routine, and I pick up some great stuff to read in the general library too.

Join a few clubs. What interests do you have? You should find likeminded people in clubs that you enjoy.

Volunteer in your town. Get yourself out to places that are free... Library, social clubs, put yourself in places where others are too :)
