Cancelled Subscription via Paypal - Can I be forced to pay?

They still haven't been able to clarify my position either way but the Citizens Advice Consumer Service have now told me to get in touch with the Legal Ombudsman.0

I too have ended up in this position with LegalCare having cancelled free trial via PayPal and then getting email out of the blue demanding payment. Can't believe I've ended up in this position. Am normally so careful about following correct cancellation procedure. And it is reassuring to find that others have done the same as me. Does rather make you think they have set it up to happen on purpose. Still feel so stupid though and will be very careful about what I sign up to in future.
At the stage of having sent a letter of complaint by recorded delivery having spoken to citizens advice. Will post what outcome of this is, but not hopeful....
Would like to know if anyone else has any success at least bringing contract term down so don't have to pay them much - not that it's fair we should give them anything at all!0 -
Judging from past emails they don't exactly seem the reasonable type, so I wouldn't imagine so. Don't know how you'd stand if you paid them anything, I think you'd be technically accepting the contract then and it kind of undermines your entire argument.
Have spoken to a solicitor (a real one this time) on the back of another query and I'm more than confident with the route I have/will be taking should they pursue further. Can't make anybody else's decision for them obviously, but the more people that don't just roll over and accept it, the better for all undergoing the same issue.0 -
Heck, depending on how threatening/harassing they get chasing for a payment that is not due, I might look into issuing a counterclaim under The Protection from Harassment Act 1997. The level and content of emails they've sent me so far doesn't put them in good stead :rotfl:0

You need to have formally advised them of their conduct (or something like that), saying that any further contact will be treated as harassment. Until you have done so the previous communications are merely supporting materials, not evidence of harassment.0
-
Aye, that was done several emails ago. They are still pestering.0
-
Unfortunately you need to WRITE to them (I believe) - I'm not sure email is sufficient. (Perhaps if they replied to your email where you mentioned harassment, so you have evidence that they received it, then that might be OK).0

The Legal Ombudsman have told me that Legal Care are not approved to provide Legal Services in England and Wales. They have advised me to get back in touch with the Citizens Advice Consumer Service.0

i know its been a while since my last post i thought the matter would go away after i told them to stop bothering me and as far as im concerned the matter is closed.
I have recieved a letter today from their solicitors GPB solicitors LLP instructed to recover £278.00.
im still unsure what to do is this more bullyboy tactics or is it time to yeild?.0 -
Only you can gauge whether they're bluffing.
Rather than ignoring it, reply stating that you are disputing their assertion and fully intend to protect your interests if required to do so.
They will then have to judge whether YOU are!0
