    I'm afraid you're wrong there.
They do have proper anpr. Your description is akin to big brother.
Asda even have anpr at head office. And yes I do know that to be true ;)

Yes they do have ANPR cameras, but its limited to their database only, and I don't think it can be used for the most part in court. So in effect they are only CCTV cameras and that is it

It's used as anpr, not as cctv.
And let's just say they aren't allowed to run cctv on Asda sites. they don't any kiy on site to do so.

But without a database like the one attached to the dvla ANPR in their vans it's as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike. All they have is their database and that is it. It's as enforceable as CCTV and is a low priority in a small claim, all it does is show a vehicle number plate.

  • Just out of curiosity can someone tell me how long it takes roughly before you hear from Asda's agent to say that they are charging you for your overstay etc? Thanks

They have to send a letter within two weeks - but even then DO NOT PAY!

Same as all the rest - nothing. Come on, you're no novice on MSE, you know how to search the forums.

Nothing - probably. Mostly you just get a load of letters.

A Supermarket has no power to fine you!! Have you COMPLAINED yet in Asda (if yours was Asda)?! Get angry about this intimidation by their agent!

But as you've appealed it already, when you get the rejection letter, start your own thread on this parking forum and we can help you word a 'killer challenge' for POPLA (see the top threads - one explains about what POPLA is, and one shows you successful POPLA challenges).

The worst thing you could do IMHO would be to fire off the same 'normal appeal' email to POPLA as you would have done to the PPC! So be ready to start your own thread when you get a rejection letter and in the meantime read the two POPLA threads at the top of this forum, and maybe a few current threads apart from this one. Lots of people on here are discussing their POPLA appeal wording.

  • Thank you for your reply. As long as I cannot be taking to court for not paying it I will not be paying. I in the other hand will be sending a cheeky letter to ASDA asking them to justify this fine when I have two receipts one for 9:35 and the other for 12:03 which I got when spending my money in their store.

Don't worry about court. The PCN is just a made-up sum from the company and has no legal backup so therefore you can't be taken to court for £70, only for the amount you have caused in damages, which is zero.

Although I'm annoyed that these companies still operate in a such way using scare tactics, I'm glad that most now have the message that they don't have to pay companies that simply set up CCTV with limited signage and no contractual entry (ticket machine or barrier entry).
